Description
YAP links several raised platforms with a dense net of ropes and a varied set of climbing and gripping elements, across a 10.6 by 9.3 m plan and 4.0 m high. What sets it apart in the island-themed range is underground rather than overhead: the foundations are only 0.6 m deep, which makes it installable on sites where deeper excavation is difficult or forbidden.
Shallow foundations, and why they decide projects
- 0.6 m foundation depth for a 4.0 m structure, against 1.0 m for the taller models in the range.
- Made ground, shallow services, archaeological constraints, contaminated fill and podium decks over car parks all limit excavation depth; on those sites the foundation specification is what rules equipment in or out.
- Less spoil to remove and less concrete to place, which shortens the works and reduces the groundworks line in the tender.
- Structural loads are spread across a wider array of posts rather than concentrated, which is what allows the shallower detail.
Play value
Multi-level nets connect the platforms so a group of children can be spread across the structure at once, each on their own route. Varied climbing and gripping elements give stronger climbers a harder line while the nets remain accessible to less confident users. The free height of fall is 2.6 m.
Materials and construction
Stainless steel structural posts; 18 mm polyamide rope with a braided galvanised steel core, cut-resistant and UV-stable; aluminium and stainless steel connectors; impact and weather resistant HPL decorative panels; high-strength concrete foundations. Frequently asked questions
Can the foundation detail be adapted for a podium or a slab?
Surface-fixed base details are possible where the slab can take the loads, but they require a structural check of the existing deck. Send us the slab drawings and we will confirm before quoting.
Is a shallower foundation less stable?
No. The depth follows from the structural design of this specific configuration, not from a compromise. Foundation depths in this range vary from 0.6 m to 1.0 m according to height and load path.
How does YAP compare with the taller structures in the range?
Similar play type, lower exposure: 4.0 m against 4.9 m or more, with a 2.6 m free height of fall. Where a site cannot dig deep or cannot surface for a 3.0 m fall height, YAP is usually the answer.
Send us your site constraints — services, ground conditions, excavation limits — and we will confirm the foundation detail and return a costed proposal within 24 business hours.
