Description
TONGA is a themed rope play structure measuring 7.8 x 6.1 m on plan and standing 4.0 m high. Interlinked raised platforms sit inside a network of climbing nets and ropes, so a group of children can move from one level to another without ever touching the ground. The island silhouette makes it a natural centrepiece for a municipal park, a campsite play area or a holiday village.
Play value and capacity
- Multi-level rope nets on several faces, giving separate ascent and descent routes
- Interlinked raised platforms that double as rest points and social spaces
- Climbing and gripping elements that reward technique and progression rather than raw strength
- Recommended for children from 3 to 14 years, with a free height of fall of 2.6 m
Materials and durability
The structure is built on stainless steel posts. Ropes are 18 mm polyamide with a braided galvanised steel core, cut resistant and UV stabilised, joined with aluminium and stainless steel connectors. Decorative elements are HPL panels, which hold their colour and shrug off impact and weather. The whole assembly is set on high-strength concrete foundations.
Siting and groundworks
Allow a minimum safety area of 10.6 x 9.1 m around the unit. Because the free height of fall reaches 2.6 m, the impact area must be finished with an impact-attenuating surface dimensioned for that fall height, whether wet-pour rubber, rubber tiles or a certified loose-fill depth. Foundations are cast in place at 0.6 m depth. A compact excavator and light lifting plant are normally sufficient for delivery and erection, which keeps installation costs predictable on constrained urban sites.
Compliance
TONGA is certified to EN 1176, the European standard for playground equipment, by an independent certification body. A technical data sheet and a site layout drawing are issued with every quotation, so your landscape architect or works department can position the unit and its safety area accurately at design stage.

Frequently asked questions
Which age group is TONGA designed for?
The unit is approved for children from 3 to 14 years. Younger users tend to stay on the lower nets and platforms, while older children use the full height. The 2.6 m free height of fall is the figure your surfacing specification must be based on.
How much ground do I need to reserve?
The equipment itself occupies 7.8 x 6.1 m, but the reserved area is 10.6 x 9.1 m once the safety zone is added. Nothing rigid, such as benches, bins or tree trunks, may sit inside that zone.
Do the ropes have to be replaced over time?
The steel-cored polyamide rope is designed for many years of public use. Where wear does appear, individual rope sections and connectors are replaced without dismantling the structure, which is why we recommend recording rope condition at each routine inspection.
Tell us the site dimensions, the age profile you serve and your surfacing preference, and we will return a costed proposal with layout drawing and certification file. See the wider rope play sets range or request a quote for TONGA.
