Description
FILOSA answers a problem that comes up on almost every retrofit project: the site has very little spare ground, but the play offer still has to feel worth visiting. The unit occupies just 3.6 x 3.0 m yet rises to 3.9 m, concentrating the climbing experience in the vertical plane rather than spreading it across the plot.
Where a vertical unit makes sense
- School and nursery courtyards where circulation routes cannot be narrowed
- Residential courtyards managed by housing associations, where the play area is carved out of a shared garden
- Hotel and campsite grounds that need a strong visual feature without losing lawn
- Filling a gap in an existing playground already served by low, spread-out equipment
How it plays
Nets and cordage rise through several levels around a raised platform, with dedicated climbing and gripping elements at each stage. Children read the route as a series of short, achievable steps, which is what keeps a compact unit interesting for the 3 to 14 age band rather than being outgrown in a season.
Materials
Stainless steel posts carry 18 mm polyamide rope with a braided galvanised steel core, cut resistant and UV stabilised. Connectors are aluminium and stainless steel; decorative elements are HPL panel. Foundations are high-strength concrete.

Frequently asked questions
Does a small footprint mean a small safety area?
Not proportionally. The equipment covers 3.6 x 3.0 m but the reserved zone is 6.0 x 5.6 m, because the safety area is driven by the 2.6 m free height of fall rather than by the base dimensions. Budget the surfacing from the 6.0 x 5.6 m figure.
Is FILOSA suitable next to a wall or fence?
Only if the full safety area remains clear on every face. Where a boundary encroaches, we adjust the orientation or propose a lower unit from the same family; send us the site plan and we will check the clearances before quoting.
Why stainless steel posts rather than timber?
Stainless steel removes the rot and splinter maintenance that timber posts bring, and it keeps the visual mass of the structure to a minimum, which matters when the equipment stands 3.9 m tall in a small courtyard.
Send us your courtyard dimensions and the age profile you serve, and we will confirm whether FILOSA fits or recommend an alternative. Browse the full rope play sets range or request a quote.
