A pulling station that fits a tight floor plan

Back work is often the first thing to be cut when a gym floor runs short of space. At 125 x 116 cm this station takes less area than most leg machines, which makes it a realistic option for club rooms, hotel gyms and corporate facilities that still want a genuine plate loaded pulling movement rather than a cable substitute.

The chest pad supports the torso so the lower back is not loaded during the pull, and the two arms are loaded independently on Olympic sleeves. Each side can therefore be balanced separately, which is useful in return to training and post injury programming.

Construction

The frame is built from hot rolled SPHC oval steel tube in a 120 x 50 x 3 mm section, laser cut and robot welded so that the pivot geometry is identical from one unit to the next. The finish is a powder coat system of two protective base layers plus a top coat, around 300 microns in total, in black or grey as standard. Non slip rubber feet protect the floor covering and stop the machine walking under heavy loading. A safety support limits the range of the working area.

The machine is powder coated carbon steel for indoor use, not stainless steel.

Which muscles does the seated row train?

The movement targets the latissimus dorsi, the rhomboids and the mid trapezius, with secondary work in the biceps and rear deltoids. The chest pad removes the lower back from the equation, so the load stays on the pulling muscles.

Why choose plate loading over a selectorised row?

Plate loading gives independent resistance on each arm, an unlimited top end limited only by the discs you own, and no cables or pulleys to service. For clubs that already stock Olympic plates it is also the cheaper way to add a pulling station.

Does it suit a low ceiling room?

Yes. At 119.5 cm the machine is well below head height, so it can be installed in basements and mezzanines where a lat pulldown tower would not fit.
