Description

The angle that lets people load properly
At 45 degrees the sled travels along a diagonal, so a portion of the load is carried by the rails rather than by the athlete. That is precisely why the inclined press produces the highest absolute loads of any leg movement on a gym floor, and why members who will never approach a heavy squat will happily press two or three times their body weight here. The movement drives the quadriceps, the glutes and the hamstrings through a controlled range, with the back supported throughout.

Inclined or vertical: choosing between the two presses
The vertical press in the same range takes about half the floor area and biases the glutes and hamstrings more heavily because of the longer hip range. The 45 degree press takes more room but supports the back through the whole movement, is easier to enter and leave, and allows far heavier absolute loads. Clubs with space install both; clubs choosing one usually take the 45 degree version, because it is the machine members recognise and ask for.
Construction
Hot-rolled SPHC oval steel tube, 3 mm wall, laser cut and robot welded, on non-slip rubber floor supports. Grip zones are extra-strength TPR-EVA. The seat uses a twin pneumatic cylinder reinforced construction with 2 mm upholstery leather over high-density polyurethane foam. Finish is a powder coating applied as two protective base coats plus a final top coat, black or grey as standard, with custom colours available.

Frequently asked questions
How many plates should be provided for a leg press?
More than for any other station. A club should plan on at least 200 kg of 50 mm plates dedicated to the leg press area, kept on the machine posts and on a nearby tree so that loading does not empty the rest of the free-weight zone.
What is the safety bar for?
It limits how far the sled descends, which stops the hips rolling under and the lower back rounding at the bottom of the range. Set it during induction for each user population; it is the single most useful safety adjustment on the machine.
Does it need to be anchored?
No. At 240 kg unloaded and considerably more in use, the machine is stable on its rubber floor supports. Anchoring is only considered on sloping or unusually slippery floors.
