Description
LETO is a rope crossing formed by a single horizontal rope carrying four half-circle arches, strung between posts 3.0 m apart. The main rope height is adjustable between 1.4 m and 2.85 m, which lets the difficulty be set at installation rather than fixed by the catalogue.
Setting the difficulty at installation
Very few pieces of play equipment allow the operator to choose how demanding they are. On LETO, a school serving seven-year-olds and a park serving teenagers can install the same module at different heights and get an appropriate challenge from each. The four arches give hand support along the crossing, so the module is a traverse rather than a pure balance line.
- Main horizontal rope, height adjustable from 1.4 m to 2.85 m
- Four half-circle curved ropes, radius approximately 0.3 m
- Aluminium, stainless steel and plastic connectors
- Reinforced concrete footings

Surfacing and the adjustable height
The certified free height of fall for the module is 2.85 m, and the impact attenuating surface to EN 1176-1 is specified against that figure across the whole 5.3 x 8.3 m area. Setting the rope lower does not reduce the surfacing requirement, because the module remains capable of being reset.
Maintenance
The arches are the components children pull hardest on, so their terminations and connectors head the inspection list, together with rope tension, under the routine, operational and annual regime required by EN 1176.
Frequently asked questions
Can the height be changed after installation?
The main rope height is adjustable within the stated range as part of the installation and maintenance process. It is not a user-operated adjustment and should be recorded when changed.
Is LETO a balance module or a climbing module?
It is a crossing with hand support. Children traverse along the main rope using the arches, which builds balance and grip together rather than either alone.
How does it compare with LETO XL?
LETO XL uses six arches over a 4.24 m span, extending the traverse and the number of users it absorbs.
