Description
SABIK is a compact rope climbing structure built on four curved steel arches. Its 4.3 x 4.3 m footprint puts a genuine net-climbing experience into spaces that would normally only take a spring rider or a small tower, which is why it is specified for courtyard schools, nursery annexes and small residential schemes.
Adjustable tension is the design feature
The suspended nets are tensioned through adjustable terminations rather than fixed shackles. That matters over the life of the equipment: polyamide rope relaxes slightly with use, and being able to take up that slack at routine maintenance keeps the climbing geometry as designed instead of letting it sag. It also lets the nets be set slightly firmer for older users or softer for a younger cohort.
Specification highlights
- Four curved steel arches forming the load-bearing frame.
- Suspended rope nets with adjustable tension.
- 160 m of braided polyamide rope in total.
- Aluminium and stainless steel connectors.
- HPL plate at the apex.
- Black steel protected by hot-dip galvanising, with powder coating available as an option.
Siting and surfacing
SABIK occupies 4.3 x 4.3 m, stands 3.4 m tall and needs a minimum safety area of 7.3 x 7.3 m. Foundations are concrete at 1.0 m depth and installation requires access for lifting plant. The free height of fall is 1.3 m, low enough to widen the choice of impact-attenuating surfacing considerably. The equipment is certified to EN 1176-1:2017; the surfacing is a separate specification tested to EN 1177 and rated for at least that fall height. Our guide to playground safety surfacing and fall height sets out how the two standards divide.

Frequently asked questions
How often should the net tension be checked?
At each routine inspection, and always after the first few months of use, when the initial bedding-in of the rope is greatest. Adjustment is made at the terminations without dismantling the nets.
Is powder coating worth specifying?
It is a colour finish over the galvanising, not additional corrosion protection. Specify it where the playground has a colour scheme to match; otherwise the galvanised finish performs identically.
What is the smallest area SABIK can occupy?
7.3 x 7.3 m of clear, surfaced ground. That figure, not the 4.3 m frame, is what determines whether the unit fits.
