Description
JUNO is a balance crossing built from two parallel ropes tensioned between two galvanised steel posts set 3.0 m apart. Children walk the lower rope while steadying themselves on the upper one, which trains balance, foot placement and coordination in a way no fixed beam can. The 3.0 m span is the standard format: enough to be demanding, compact enough to drop into a mid-sized play area or to chain with other rope modules along a circuit.
An adjustable balance challenge
- Two horizontal ropes tensioned between two posts, 3.0 m apart.
- The lower rope is adjustable in height from 0.4 m to 1.25 m, so the difficulty can be matched to the age group using the site.
- Vertical spacing between the two ropes is adjustable from 1.4 m to 1.8 m.
- Slim 0.3 m width in plan, which makes JUNO easy to align with paths, fences or an existing rope circuit.
Because both settings are made on site at installation, the same product suits a primary school that wants a low, reassuring crossing and a holiday park that wants a genuinely testing one.
Materials and construction
- Structural posts in hot-dip galvanised steel, 168.3 mm diameter, with a galvanised and powder-coated cap.
- Braided and bonded polyamide rope, 18 mm diameter, with a six-strand galvanised steel wire core.
- Clamping collars in structural steel protected by chlorinated rubber paint.
- Articulated connections in stainless steel; linking elements in aluminium and technical plastic.
- Reinforced concrete pad foundations, 1.0 m deep.
Siting and safety area
The minimum impact area is 5.3 by 8.3 m, elongated along the axis of the crossing. The free height of fall is 2.85 m, so a certified impact-attenuating surface is required across the whole of that area. Foundations are 1.0 m deep reinforced concrete pads and heavy plant access is needed to place them. JUNO is frequently combined with other rope play modules to build a continuous route across a park.

Frequently asked questions
Can the rope height be changed after installation?
Yes. The lower rope is clamped at the posts and can be repositioned between 0.4 m and 1.25 m by the site maintenance team. Any change must be recorded in the playground inspection file, since it alters the effective difficulty of the item.
How many children can use JUNO at once?
The crossing is designed for one child at a time on the span, with others queuing outside the impact area. In practice this self-regulates well and is one reason the item works in supervised school settings.
Does JUNO need the same surfacing as a climbing frame?
It does. Despite the low walking rope, the free height of fall is taken from the upper rope, so the surfacing must be tested for 2.85 m across the full 5.3 by 8.3 m area.
Send us the length available along your intended axis and your current ground build-up, and we will price JUNO complete with foundations, installation and the EN 1176 documentation your handover file needs.
