Description

ELEKTRA is a lattice of eight inclined ropes and ten horizontal ropes, tensioned across three posts arranged in a 3.0 x 3.0 m configuration. The inclined plane is what distinguishes it: the net is climbed at an angle rather than vertically.

Climbing on a slope

An inclined net changes the balance between arms and legs. On a vertical face the arms take most of the load; at an angle the legs can drive, and a child who cannot yet pull their own weight is still able to reach the top. That makes ELEKTRA one of the more inclusive climbing modules in the collection in practical terms, without any change to its specification, and it also gives confident children an obvious way to increase difficulty by climbing the underside.

  • Lattice of eight inclined ropes and ten horizontal ropes
  • Structure tensioned across three posts
  • Steel fixing clamps protected with chlorinated rubber paint
  • Aluminium, stainless steel and plastic connectors

Specifying the surfaced area

The square safety area of 8.3 x 8.3 m applies even though the module itself is asymmetric, because the inclined face projects across the plot. Surfacing to EN 1176-1 is sized against the 2.85 m free height of fall, and heavy plant access is required for the 1.0 m foundations.

Maintenance

Fixing clamps on an inclined structure carry a shear component that a vertical net does not, so clamp condition and paint integrity are the items to record at the annual inspection, alongside rope tension and sheath wear.

Frequently asked questions

Can children climb the underside of the net?

They do, and the module is certified as a whole with that use in mind. The free height of fall and the surfaced area account for the full envelope.

Why three posts rather than four?

The inclined geometry is carried on three points, which reduces the foundation work while keeping the same 3.0 x 3.0 m setting-out grid used by the four-post modules.

Is it suitable next to a slope or retaining wall?

Only if the full safety area remains flat and clear. Level changes inside the surfaced area alter the effective fall height and are assessed case by case.
