Description
ISIS is a vertical rope lattice of five vertical and five horizontal ropes forming a regular 0.5 x 0.5 m mesh between two posts 3.0 m apart. It is the simplest module in the rope collection and, for that reason, the one children use first.
The value of a regular mesh
A 0.5 x 0.5 m opening is large enough to climb through and small enough to be read at a glance. Because the pattern repeats, a child does not have to solve anything before starting: they can climb it, hang from it, sit in it or use it as a barrier in a chasing game. Modules with irregular geometry generate more interest per visit, but a regular lattice generates more visits, which is why most trails include one.
- Lattice of five vertical and five horizontal ropes
- Mesh openings of 0.5 x 0.5 m
- Aluminium, stainless steel and plastic connectors
- Reinforced concrete footings

Use in schools
Climbing a vertical net uses the whole body in a way that a ladder does not, and the module suits circuit work in physical education as well as free play. The free height of fall is 2.85 m, so the impact attenuating surface to EN 1176-1 has to cover the full 5.3 x 8.3 m area regardless of how the module is used.
Maintenance
Inspection covers rope tension, sheath abrasion at the crossing points and the security of the connectors, under the routine, operational and annual regime required by EN 1176. The galvanised posts need no coating maintenance.
Frequently asked questions
Can a child fall through the mesh?
The openings and the whole configuration are part of the certified design assessed against EN 1176-1, which governs entrapment and opening sizes. The mesh must not be modified on site.
Is this module suitable for the youngest users of a trail?
It is certified from 5 years like the rest of the collection. Within that range it is the most approachable module, and it is often placed at the entrance to the trail for that reason.
How does it compare with ISIS XL?
ISIS XL keeps the same 0.5 x 0.5 m mesh but stretches to eight vertical ropes across a 4.24 m span, giving a wider climbing face.
