Description
IDA XL combines four horizontal ropes tensioned between two posts 4.24 m apart, a reinforced rubber mat path with climbing openings and two vertical spider web walls. The result is a compact climbing module of 4.6 by 0.75 m that offers three different movements rather than one.
Steel spacers hold the four horizontal ropes apart, which keeps the geometry stable while a child crosses. The rubber mat path of 0.6 by 4.3 m is pierced with climbing openings and profiled to suggest a mountain, so it is climbed as well as walked. At each end, a vertical spider web wall gives a second way up, and a rope lattice platform provides a stopping point at height.
The posts are hot dip galvanised steel of 168.3 mm diameter. Ropes are braided and bonded polyamide of 18 mm diameter with a six strand galvanised steel wire core. The articulated connections are stainless steel, with aluminium and plastic link elements, and the module stands on reinforced concrete pad foundations.

Where the module fits
IDA XL is specified where a school or a municipality wants climbing content in a narrow strip: along a fence line, between a path and a lawn, or as one station on a longer rope trail. The three movements on one module, crossing, climbing and traversing the web walls, keep children on it longer than a single balance beam would.
The receiving area must be surfaced with an impact attenuating material to EN 1176-1 for a free height of fall of 2.85 m, over the full 5.3 by 9.6 m area. Foundation works need access for heavy plant, so gate widths and ground bearing are checked at survey.
