Description

CASTALIA XL spans 4.24 m with thirteen vertical ropes crossed by five horizontal ropes inclined from 0 to 15 degrees. The denser vertical spacing turns the variable mesh into a genuinely long climbing and crossing face.

Density changes the exercise

Thirteen verticals over 4.24 m puts the ropes close enough together that a child can move without ever reaching for a distant hold, which sounds easier but is not: the crossing lasts longer, the arms work continuously and the inclined horizontals keep shifting the foot spacing. It is the module that most reliably tires the confident nine-year-olds who race through everything else in a trail.

  • Thirteen vertical ropes
  • Five horizontal ropes inclined from 0 to 15 degrees
  • Openings of varied size across the span
  • Aluminium, stainless steel and plastic connectors

Budgeting the surfaced area

The safety area of 5.3 x 9.6 m is roughly 51 square metres of impact attenuating surface to EN 1176-1. On most projects the surfacing, not the equipment, is the item that decides how many modules fit the budget, so the strip width of 5.3 m shared by all the two-post modules is worth planning around from the outset.

Maintenance

More ropes means more terminations to inspect. Tension, sheath abrasion and connector security are recorded under the routine, operational and annual regime required by EN 1176.

Typical buyers

The wide-span variable mesh crossing is most often specified by local authorities replacing a tired timber trim trail, and by secondary schools that need equipment older pupils will still use. Both are looking for a module that resists boredom, and irregular spacing is the cheapest way to achieve that without adding height or moving parts.

Frequently asked questions

Is the XL version harder than the standard?

Longer rather than higher: the free height of fall is 2.85 m on both. The difficulty comes from sustaining the crossing across a wider span.

Can the module be installed across a slight slope?

The safety area must be level and the surfacing continuous. Slopes inside the area change the effective fall height and have to be assessed before we confirm the position.

How long does installation take?

Foundation excavation, casting and curing govern the programme rather than the assembly of the module itself. We confirm the sequence with the site plan at quotation stage.
