Street workout rigs: Light In Fitness vs Kenguru Pro for public buyers

Parc de fitness extérieur moderne sous un ciel bleu ensoleillé.

Short answer: Kenguru Pro and Light In Fitness both supply calisthenics and street workout rigs to public bodies, and the honest way to choose between them is to compare four documented things: which standard the structure is certified against, what the frame is actually made of, how the price and lead time are established, and who is contractually responsible for installation, inspection and spare parts. Kenguru Pro is a European manufacturer founded in 2011, known as an official supplier to WSWCF world championship events, selling by quotation through a network of authorised dealers. Light In Fitness is a European manufacturer-distributor operating since 2013, publishing catalogue prices, building hot-dip galvanised steel and stainless steel 316L structures to EN 16630, and delivering a single-contract package from site audit to after-sales. This guide gives you the grid, not the verdict.

The one question that settles most public tenders: which standard, and certified by whom?

Buyers frequently misread this line, so it is worth being precise. EN 16630 is the European standard for permanently installed outdoor fitness equipment with free public access. It is the reference most European contracting authorities write into their technical specifications for adult street workout and calisthenics installations. TÜV is not a standard — it is a family of certification bodies. A TÜV certificate is meaningful, but its value depends entirely on which standard it certifies against and which equipment references it covers.

So the correct question to put to any supplier, Kenguru Pro and Light In Fitness included, is: show me the certificate, name the standard and edition it references, and list the product references it covers. A certificate against EN 16630 answers a European tender. A certificate against a different scheme may not.

Two adjacent standards matter and are regularly confused:

  • EN 1176 covers playground equipment for children. It is not interchangeable with EN 16630, and mixing the two on one site changes the inspection regime.
  • EN 1177 governs impact-attenuating surfacing and the critical fall height it must achieve. If your rig has a free height of fall above 600 mm, surfacing is a compliance item, not a finish.

We cover the boundary between the two families in our note on outdoor structure safety standards, and the surfacing thresholds in safety surfacing and fall height.

Criterion-by-criterion comparison

Criterion Light In Fitness Kenguru Pro
Company Manufacturer-distributor, France, trading since 2013; direct contract with the buyer Manufacturer founded 2011, EU production, sales through authorised dealers in around fifteen countries
Frame material Hot-dip galvanised steel with epoxy powder coating on the TRAINER, Steel4Fit and BL ranges; a separate stainless steel 316L range for coastal and high-salinity sites Anodised aluminium and stainless steel, with the manufacturer’s patented clamp system
Standards declared EN 16630 outdoor, EN ISO 20957-1:2024 indoor, CE marking, structural steel to EN 10025 TÜV certification and WSWCF endorsement, as published by the manufacturer
Bespoke work Structures manufactured to the client’s drawings in steel and stainless steel Configuration by assembly of catalogue modules
Pricing Catalogue prices published per product, plus a project quotation By quotation only, via the dealer network
Scope of service Site audit, 3D layout plan, delivery, installation, after-sales response within 48 working hours Design, manufacture, installation and warranty delivered through the local dealer
Adjacent ranges Rigs, complete parks, ninja modules, accessible equipment, fitness trails, impact-absorbing rubber tiles from one supplier Street workout and para-workout structures plus related sports ranges

Every line reflects what each company publishes about itself. No third-party estimates, failure rates or price ranges are attributed to either supplier.

Materials: galvanised steel, stainless 316L and aluminium do different jobs

All three families resist corrosion when correctly specified. The difference is where each earns its keep:

  • Hot-dip galvanised steel — zinc coating applied to EN ISO 1461, then epoxy powder coated. High stiffness per euro, repairable in the field with zinc-rich paint, and the established default for urban sports furniture. This is what the TRAINER, Steel4Fit and BL ranges use.
  • Stainless steel 316L — molybdenum-bearing grade with materially better resistance to chlorides than 304. It is the grade to specify within roughly 1 km of the coast, near swimming pool halls or on de-icing salt routes. Grade 304 is adequate inland but will pit in salt-laden air, which is why we publish a dedicated 316L coastal range rather than describing all stainless as equivalent.
  • Anodised aluminium — low density, no red rust, and requires larger sections for the same stiffness because its elastic modulus is about a third of steel’s.

The mistake to avoid is specifying “stainless” without a grade, or accepting a structure where only the bolts or grips are stainless while the frame is coated carbon steel. Ask for the grade of the load-bearing frame in writing. Our steel grade guide sets out the questions.

Budget: published prices you can put in a report

For a public body, being able to build an indicative budget before going to tender is worth as much as the equipment itself. The figures below are current Light In Fitness catalogue prices, excluding VAT, structure only — surfacing, groundworks and installation are quoted separately.

Structure Typical brief Price (excluding VAT)
BL-ACR1 calisthenics station Small site, single-station addition to a park 2,500.00 EUR excluding VAT
BL-CR3 street workout rig Neighbourhood park, 6-10 simultaneous users 6,250.00 EUR excluding VAT
Cage Street Workout Z3 School or campus, supervised and free use 12,500.00 EUR excluding VAT
Cage Street Workout Heroes Municipal flagship rig, mixed public 15,500.00 EUR excluding VAT
Cage Street Workout SP Max Large urban park or defence training area 26,000.00 EUR excluding VAT

Add, as separate budget lines: impact-attenuating surfacing sized to the free height of fall, foundations and groundworks, installation, the pre-opening inspection, and an annual inspection contract. On a typical municipal project the structure represents roughly half to two thirds of the delivered cost — see what a street workout structure really costs.

Route to market: direct contract or dealer network

Kenguru Pro sells through authorised dealers; Light In Fitness contracts directly with the buyer. Neither model is inherently better, but they place responsibility in different hands, and a tender document should say where it sits. Ask both suppliers the same five questions:

  1. Who signs the contract, and who is liable for the installation — the manufacturer or a dealer?
  2. What is the committed response time for a safety-critical defect, in working hours?
  3. How long are spare parts guaranteed available, and where do they ship from?
  4. Is the pre-opening inspection included, and by whom is it carried out?
  5. What does the warranty actually cover — frame, welds, coating, hardware, bearings — and for how long on each?

Light In Fitness commits to an after-sales response within 48 working hours and warrants its steel structures for 20 years, with a lifetime warranty on stainless steel ranges. Those are our own published terms on our own products; ask any competing supplier for theirs in the same format so the comparison is like for like. The procurement checklist in buying sports equipment through public tender turns this into award criteria.

Which supplier suits which brief

  • Municipality or local authority — the binding constraints are usually EN 16630 conformity evidence, an auditable budget before tender, surfacing sized to fall height, and an inspection regime. Published prices and a single-contract package make that easier to assemble.
  • School, college or university — apparatus heights need to suit the age group, which favours bespoke manufacture over fixed catalogue modules, and supervision arrangements need to be recorded.
  • Defence, police or fire service — obstacle-course specific layouts and heavy daily use argue for build-to-drawing steel structures and a documented maintenance contract.
  • Federation competition organiser — if the event rulebook names an official equipment supplier, that requirement is contractual and takes precedence; a permanent training site built alongside it can be specified independently.

Frequently asked questions

Which standard applies to a public street workout rig in Europe?

EN 16630 applies to permanently installed outdoor fitness equipment with free public access. EN 1176 applies to children’s playground equipment and is not a substitute. EN 1177 governs the impact-attenuating surfacing and the critical fall height it must achieve. Most European contracting authorities cite EN 16630 directly in the technical specification.

Is a TÜV certificate the same as EN 16630 conformity?

Not automatically. TÜV bodies are certification organisations; a certificate is only as relevant as the standard it references. Ask any supplier for the certificate itself, the standard and edition it cites, and the list of product references covered. That single document resolves the question.

Galvanised steel, stainless 316L or aluminium for an outdoor rig?

Hot-dip galvanised steel with epoxy coating is the established default for inland urban sites and offers the best stiffness per euro. Stainless steel 316L is the grade to specify in coastal, pool-hall or de-icing-salt environments, where 304 will pit. Anodised aluminium avoids red rust but needs larger sections for equivalent stiffness. Always ask which grade the load-bearing frame uses, not the fittings.

What does a municipal street workout rig cost?

Light In Fitness catalogue prices run from 2,500.00 EUR excluding VAT for a single calisthenics station to 26,000.00 EUR excluding VAT for a large multi-station rig, structure only. Surfacing, foundations, installation and inspection are additional and frequently add 40 to 80 per cent to the structure price depending on ground conditions.

Can a street workout structure be manufactured to our own drawings?

Yes. Light In Fitness manufactures steel and stainless steel structures to client drawings, which is the usual route for obstacle courses on defence sites, awkward site footprints, and apparatus heights matched to a school age group. Catalogue-module systems configure within a fixed set of parts instead.

Specifying an outdoor training area? Send us the site plan, the intended user group and the surfacing constraints, and we will return a 3D layout, an EN 16630 specification, a surfacing schedule sized to the free height of fall, and a delivered price excluding VAT. Light In Fitness has equipped more than 500 facilities — municipalities, schools, defence sites and clubs — since 2013. See the street workout range for public bodies or request a quotation.
