Stainless Steel CrossFit Containers: Every Safety and Compliance Standard

by Michaël Galy / Wednesday, 04 February 2026 / Published in Crossfit / Rigs
Containers CrossFit en inox - toutes les normes de sécurité et de conformité

Are you considering a stainless steel container gym for your facility, your outdoor site or your CrossFit box? Before committing, one question decides the rest: what evidence do you have that the equipment meets the safety requirements in force? Light In Fitness container gyms comply with a complete set of European and international standards. Here is what each certification covers and what it means in practice for your investment.

CE marking: your route onto the European market

CE marking together with the Declaration of Conformity (DoC) is the foundation for placing a product on the European market. The marking is the manufacturer official declaration that the equipment meets all applicable safety and conformity requirements.

In practice it means our stainless steel CrossFit containers have been assessed against strict criteria before being offered for sale. You get full traceability and clearly established responsibility — which matters as soon as the equipment is operated commercially or opened to the public.

Fitness and sports equipment standards

EN 16630:2015 — permanently installed outdoor fitness equipment

This European standard covers fitness equipment installed permanently outdoors. It sets out the applicable safety requirements, the standardised test methods, the mechanical risk analysis, the entrapment and pinch zones to be designed out, and the stability criteria the equipment must satisfy.

EN ISO 20957-1:2013 — stationary training equipment

This is the general standard for stationary training equipment. It provides a complete framework covering safety requirements, ergonomics and the test protocols applicable to a wide range of professional training apparatus.

EN 15312:2007+A1:2010 — free access multi-sports equipment

Is your container intended for collective or public use? This standard governs freely accessible sports equipment. It ensures that design, manufacture and test methods are suited to intensive use by users of widely differing ages and abilities — the situation on any municipal or open-access site.

Structural and manufacturing standards

EN 1090-1:2009+A1:2011 — execution of steel and aluminium structures

This is the reference standard for the manufacture of metal structures. It governs conformity assessment of structural components, material traceability, factory production control, and the technical requirements applying to fabrication itself.

The Eurocodes: calculating structural resistance

Our containers are designed to the most demanding European calculation rules:

Eurocode Reference Application
Eurocode 0 EN 1990 Basis of structural design, general principles and reliability
Eurocode 1 EN 1991-1-3 Snow loads for outdoor use
Eurocode 1 EN 1991-1-4 Wind actions and stability
Eurocode 3 DIN EN 1993-1-1 Design of steel structures
Eurocode 9 DIN EN 1999-1-1 Design of aluminium structures

These references are what make it possible to demonstrate mathematically that each container withstands the loads it actually meets in service, rather than asserting it.

Container and transport standards

CSC — International Convention for Safe Containers

The CSC convention sets the international safety requirements for containers. It ensures our equipment is designed to remain safe to use throughout its service life, which is the point at which a container gym differs from a simple steel box.

ISO 668 and ISO 1161 — standardised dimensions and corner fittings

  • ISO 668 sets the standardised dimensions and classification of series 1 ISO containers.
  • ISO 1161 defines the corner fittings, or corner castings, that make standardised handling and lashing possible.

Together these give universal compatibility with existing lifting and transport systems — which is what allows a container gym to be craned onto a site, and later moved to another one.

Quality and load-securing standards

ISO 3834-2 — quality requirements for welding

Welding is the critical stage in manufacturing stainless steel fitness equipment. ISO 3834-2 corresponds to comprehensive quality requirements: organisation, welder qualifications, inspection, and complete traceability of operations.

STANAG 7213 and EN 12195 — securing the transport

  • STANAG 7213 (a NATO reference) sets lashing requirements for road transport.
  • EN 12195 covers load restraint assemblies on road vehicles.

Your container arrives in the condition it left the factory in, whatever distance it has travelled.

Why these certifications matter for your project

Investing in a CrossFit container certified to these standards secures four things: maximum safety for users, legal conformity for commercial operation, proven durability against outdoor conditions, and resale value preserved by the certifications themselves.

For a buyer this is not paperwork. Insurance cover, acceptance by a public client and the ability to move the unit later all depend on the file being complete. Ask for the Declaration of Conformity before you order, not after delivery.

Frequently asked questions

Which standards apply if the container is used indoors?

The requirements follow the use, not the label. Equipment installed permanently outdoors falls under EN 16630:2015, while stationary training equipment is covered by EN ISO 20957-1:2013. Where a container is opened to unsupervised public use, EN 15312:2007+A1:2010 applies to the freely accessible equipment it contains.

Does a certified container still need a site foundation study?

Certification covers the unit, not the ground it stands on. The Eurocode calculations establish how the structure responds to snow and wind actions, but the bearing capacity of the site and the anchoring detail remain a matter for the local design team and the applicable national rules.

What documents should be requested before ordering?

Ask for the CE marking and the Declaration of Conformity, the structural calculation notes referencing the Eurocodes applied, and the welding quality documentation under ISO 3834-2. A supplier that cannot produce them on request is unlikely to produce them after an incident.

Specifying a certified container gym

Our premium stainless steel CrossFit containers, available in 10, 20 and 40 foot formats, carry the full set of certifications described above. They sit alongside our wider container gym range and our CrossFit and Hyrox cages, and a unit such as the CF110 deployable CrossFit container gym shows how the format works in service. Send us your site constraints and intended use and we will confirm which standards apply to your configuration — request a quote.
