Which Professional Stair Climber to Choose? The Bodytone EVO Climber for Gyms, Hotels and Spas
In professional cardio, one machine has quietly become the piece members queue for: the stair climber. Popular with premium clubs, hotel gyms and wellness centres, it delivers a vertical, high-intensity workout that a treadmill cannot replicate. Among the machines on the market, the Bodytone EVO Climber stands out as a reference for commercial floors. This guide covers the technology, the physiological benefits, the commercial applications, the compliance requirements and the buying criteria that matter when you add a stair climber to a professional cardio area.
1. What is a professional stair climber?
A technical definition
A professional stair climber is a cardio machine that reproduces continuous stair ascent through motorised rotating steps or variable resistance. Unlike a conventional stepper, the movement it produces is more natural, genuinely vertical and far more demanding for the whole lower body.
Stair climber, stepmill and stepper: the differences
- Stepper: alternating vertical movement, low impact, but limited range.
- Stepmill: motorised looping staircase, smoother, but bulky.
- Stair climber such as the EVO Climber: three solid steps, adjustable settings, progressive intensity and better user comfort.
Why train on a stair climber?
- Fast cardiovascular response: heart rate rises more quickly than on a treadmill.
- Targeted work on legs, glutes, calves and trunk stability.
- High energy expenditure: up to 700 kcal per hour.
- Moderate joint impact compared with running.
Climbing is elevation. In cardio too, efficiency is vertical.
2. Why a professional model rather than a light one
Build and durability
- Steel frame with a reinforced structure.
- High user weight capacity, up to 150 kg.
- Motor engineered for intensive duty cycles: clubs, hotels, public facilities.
Standards and certification
- EN ISO 20957-1 class S: the professional class for supervised commercial and collective use. This is the only class acceptable on a commercial floor.
- CE marking, plus the national rules that apply to public-access sports and leisure venues in your country.
- Compliant low-voltage electrical system and anti-fall provisions.
User experience
- Programmes for HIIT, weight management and recovery.
- Adjustable resistance with a smooth load progression.
- Fan, tablet holder and an intuitive console.
3. The Bodytone EVO Climber: design and performance

An intelligent console

- Six preset programmes covering every user profile.
Comfort features
- Integrated bottle holder and device holder.
- Fan to keep the user cool through long efforts.
- Easy, low step-on access, including for beginners.
Effort without suffering, efficiency without brutality.
4. A machine that suits every kind of operator
Gyms and fitness studios
- Visually striking, which matters on a competitive floor.
- Ideal for HIIT and circuit training.
- Supports retention through a workout members cannot get at home.
Hotels, spas and wellness centres
- Compact and quiet, with no disruptive motor noise.
- Premium look and immediate usability for guests.
- Upgrades the perceived value of the wellness offer.
Physiotherapy, rehabilitation and public facilities
- Adaptive training, from gentle progression to high intensity.
- Safe, controlled lower-body strengthening.
- A tool for both cardiac and locomotor reconditioning under professional supervision.
5. Energy expenditure compared
Indicative calorie burn by cardio machine, per hour
| Cardio machine | Calories per hour |
|---|---|
| Treadmill | 600 kcal |
| Cross trainer | 500 kcal |
| Rowing machine | 650 kcal |
| Stair climber (EVO) | 700 kcal |
These are averages, not measurements. Actual expenditure depends on body mass, intensity and training level, so treat the table as a ranking of demand rather than a promise of results. What is consistent across users is the pattern: a stair climber reaches a high heart rate faster, and holds it with less joint loading than running at equivalent intensity.

7. Frequently asked questions
Is the EVO Climber suitable for beginners?
Yes. Simple settings, assisted programmes and safe access mean any user can operate it independently after a short induction.
Can it be used in a hotel or spa without supervision?
Yes. It is self-contained, quiet and intuitive. Clear instructional signage at the machine is enough for unstaffed gym areas.
What is the expected service life?
The machine is designed for more than 30,000 hours of use, with a reinforced structure and a commercial-grade motor.
Does it work in circuit training?
Yes. It sequences well with a rower, an air bike or a treadmill for effective HIIT circuits.
Can it be financed rather than purchased outright?
Professional financing is common for cardio equipment, but the arrangements available depend on your country and on your legal structure. Raise it when you request your quotation and we will tell you what applies to your market.
