Description
This 10 mm shock absorbing underlay is laid beneath sports artificial turf to add certified impact attenuation and to extend the life of the surface above it. Supplied as a roll of 2 x 25 m covering 50 m2, it is the layer that decides how a sprint track or a multiplay area performs and how long it lasts.
An underlay is often treated as an optional extra, which is a mistake. It protects the turf from weather and from the wear caused by intensive use, it produces a homogeneous and stable playing surface rather than one that follows every irregularity in the base, and it absorbs impact so that the risk of injury on falls is reduced.
Ten millimetres is the working balance. A thicker layer makes the surface feel unstable underfoot, and a thinner one does not attenuate enough to be worth installing. At 10 mm the underlay gives effective impact absorption, protects against deformation caused by wind and weather, and significantly reduces noise, which is a real consideration for urban installations close to housing.

Why the EN 1177 certification matters
EN 1177 is the European standard for impact attenuating surfacing, and it is the reference used by inspectors when a play or sports area is checked. Certification of the underlay means the attenuation performance of the finished build up can be demonstrated rather than asserted, which is what an operator needs when an incident occurs on site.
Frost resistance and 100 percent recyclability are the two other specification points that come up in public sector tenders. The first determines whether the underlay survives winter cycles without breaking down, the second is increasingly a scored criterion rather than a nice to have. The 3 year manufacturer warranty applies to the product itself.
For installation, the base must be level and free draining before the underlay is rolled out. We supply the build up detail with the flooring layout study, and delivery covers France, Belgium, Switzerland and Luxembourg with export quoted per project.
Frequently asked questions
How much area does one roll cover?
50 m2, from a roll of 2 x 25 m.
Can it be used under any artificial turf?
It is designed for sports artificial turf systems such as sprint tracks and multiplay areas. We confirm compatibility with the turf specification at the quotation stage.
Is a thicker underlay better?
Not necessarily. Beyond 10 mm the surface starts to feel unstable underfoot, which is why this thickness is the standard specification.
