Description

This 20 mm polyurethane foam acoustic underlay panel is the intermediate format of the range, sitting between the 10 mm version used where height is constrained and the 30 mm version specified for severe noise problems. At a density of 200 kg per cubic metre over 20 mm, the panel weighs approximately 4 kg per square metre, appreciably more mass than the 10 mm at around 2 kg per square metre, without the height loss of the 30 mm. Acoustic absorption starts from 50 Hz. Panels measure 100 x 200 cm, covering 2 square metres each, and the price is 45 EUR excluding VAT per square metre.

Choosing the thickness and planning the build up

The three thicknesses in the range share the same 200 kg per cubic metre density and the same absorption threshold from 50 Hz, so the choice comes down to mass against height loss. The 10 mm panel at around 2 kg per square metre handles low to moderate noise and is the usual answer in residential settings, under carpet or in a refurbishment where the finished level cannot move. This 20 mm panel doubles the mass and targets moderate to significant noise: commercial and multi occupancy buildings, light industry, shooting ranges and sports rooms. The 30 mm at around 6 kg per square metre is for heavy industry and intensive shooting ranges, and its height loss has to be designed in from the start.

In a fitness context the relevant application is the layer beneath the visible floor. Rubber tiles absorb the impact of a dropped weight, but low frequency energy still travels into the structure, and that is what reaches the tenant below or the neighbouring unit. An underlay adds mass and decoupling under the finished floor and addresses the part of the problem that surface tiles alone cannot.

For installation, allow for the 20 mm height in door thresholds and junctions, cut panels with a knife using a metal rule and several passes rather than forcing a single cut, and keep joints tight. The hypoallergenic, mould resistant and antibacterial specification matters in a humid environment such as a changing area or a room with poor ventilation. The non slip surface holds panels in position during installation of the layer above.

Frequently asked questions

Can it go under a residential floating wood floor?

For that application the 10 mm panel is the standard choice. This 20 mm version should be validated against the specific floor system before ordering, and the 30 mm is not recommended.

Does more thickness improve the absorption threshold?

No. All three thicknesses absorb from 50 Hz. What changes is the surface mass, and therefore the level of noise the build up can handle, plus the height you lose.

How is the price calculated?

45 EUR excluding VAT per square metre, which is 90 EUR for a 2 square metre panel, with volume pricing on larger quantities. Send your area for a quotation.
