Description
PROSPERO is a 9 m rope climbing pyramid built on a single hot dip galvanised mast of 273 mm diameter, with eight main bearing cables and rope platforms on five levels. It is the type of structure specified when a park, a school or a large residential scheme needs one landmark piece that absorbs a whole class of children at once.
The eight bearing cables run from the head of the mast to reinforced concrete anchor blocks, and eight net walls span between them. Climbing takes place inside and outside those walls, with rope platforms distributed over five levels so that a child chooses the height at which they stop. The rope network is braided and bonded polyamide of 18 mm diameter with a galvanised steel core, cable to cable connectors are plastic and aluminium, and the cable to mast fittings combine stainless steel with hot dip galvanised steel.

Planning the safety area
The 154 m2 safety area is the first constraint to check, well before the structure itself. With a free height of fall of 2.7 m the surfacing has to be tested to a critical fall height of at least that value under EN 1177, which in practice means bonded rubber, rubber tiles of the right thickness or a loose fill depth verified by the supplier. The 1.0 m foundation depth also has to be clear of buried services and of tree root protection zones.
Because the whole structure hangs from one mast, the play volume is generous for the ground area occupied, and the rope network gives self limiting climbing: a child only reaches the height their own grip supports. Technical drawings and the implantation plan are issued on request with the quotation.
Frequently asked questions
What surfacing is required under the pyramid?
An impact attenuating surface tested to a critical fall height of at least 2.7 m under EN 1177, across the full 154 m2 safety area.
Which age group is it designed for?
The recommended range is 5 to 14 years. The five platform levels let younger children stop low while older ones climb to the upper network.
Is the structure certified?
Yes. It is certified to EN 1176-1 by an independent certification body, the framework applicable to permanently installed public playground equipment.
