Description
The Hedgehog spring rocker is the quietest character in the range, and the one most often specified for residential courtyards and small neighbourhood play areas. The body is cut from weather-resistant HDPE panel, carried on a single central spring, with ergonomic plastic handles.
Design and play value
Hedgehogs belong to the local wildlife that children in northern Europe are told about long before they see one, which makes the figure useful for schemes that pair play equipment with planting and habitat features. On a small site, a single rocker of this kind delivers real play value where a climbing frame would not fit the available safety area.
- Central spring for a stable rocking motion
- Ergonomic injection-moulded plastic handles
- Weather-resistant HDPE panel body
- Ground anchor supplied for a cast foundation

Installation on constrained sites
The 4.0 x 3.5 m safety area and the 0.6 m foundation are the two figures that decide whether a courtyard can take the item. Because no heavy plant is needed, installation is realistic in enclosed yards reached only through a gateway, which is the usual constraint for social landlords and managing agents.
Maintenance
Housing schemes generally have no dedicated grounds team, so the low-maintenance build matters: galvanised and powder coated steel needs no site painting, and the HDPE body is washable. The operator remains responsible for the routine, operational and annual inspections set out in EN 1176.
Frequently asked questions
Is one rocker enough for a small housing scheme?
For a courtyard serving a handful of flats, one or two rockers with a bench is a realistic provision. Where the scheme has more than about thirty family units, we would normally propose adding a swing or a small climbing item.
How is vandalism handled?
The body is a solid HDPE panel with no glued laminates to peel, and every component is replaceable individually. If a panel is damaged, it is changed without disturbing the foundation.
Who is responsible for inspections after handover?
The operator of the play area, which is the landlord or the managing agent. We supply the technical file and the certification with the delivery so that the inspection record can be opened on day one.
