Description
Children under six spend most of their play time pretending, and a scooter shape gives them something specific to pretend. This spring rider is built around that: handlebars to hold, a seat to straddle, and just enough movement to make the game feel real. It is the item that works hardest in nursery gardens and school reception yards, where the value is in role play rather than in physical challenge.
Role play in a small footprint
- A two-wheeler silhouette that children read instantly and immediately narrate around: riding, parking, giving a friend a lift.
- Ergonomic injection-moulded handles positioned like handlebars, which encourages the correct two-handed grip without having to teach it.
- Pairs naturally with painted road markings, a play surface graphic or a road-safety teaching zone.
- Body cut from high-strength HDPE panel, weather-resistant and easy to wipe clean after a wet term.
Materials and construction
- Steel components protected against corrosion by hot-dip galvanising and powder coating.
- Body in weather-resistant HDPE panel.
- Handles in injection-moulded plastic.
- Central spring for a stable, controlled rocking motion.
- Ground anchor supplied for fixing.
Siting and safety area
The rider measures 0.9 by 0.27 m and stands 0.84 m high, but requires a minimum impact area of 4.0 by 3.3 m. The free height of fall is below 0.6 m, the threshold above which EN 1176 requires an impact-attenuating surface, so a well-maintained grass or bound surface is usually acceptable. Foundation depth is 0.6 m with the ground anchor supplied. Compatible items across the wider playground equipment range can be laid out around it.

Frequently asked questions
Is a spring rider worth specifying in a nursery that already has ride-on toys?
They serve different purposes. Loose ride-on toys have to be put away, get damaged and disappear; a fixed rider is always available, always inspected and requires no staff handling. Most nurseries end up with both.
Can it be installed on an existing tarmac playground?
Yes, using a surface fixing in place of the buried anchor. Tell us the surface build-up when you request a quotation so the correct fixing kit is supplied and the surfacing is not compromised.
How is it inspected?
Routine checks cover the spring, the anchor bolts and the handles; the annual main inspection looks for spring fatigue and cracks in the HDPE panel. All parts are individually replaceable.
Tell us how many riders you need and the surface you are fixing into, and we will return a layout and a costed proposal within 24 business hours.
