Description
The fish spring rider gives a play area a marine anchor point. Where a site already has a water story to tell — a coastal resort, a lakeside campsite, a pool surround, a school running a marine topic — a single themed rider does more for the atmosphere of the space than a larger, generic item. The cut HDPE body reads clearly as a fish from across the park, and it rocks on a central spring at a pace young children can control themselves.
Theming a play area with a single item
- Recognisable silhouette cut from solid HDPE panel: the colour runs through the material, so scuffs and graffiti removal do not leave pale patches.
- Works as a satellite item around a larger aquatic-themed structure, or as the whole idea in a small pocket play space.
- Two or three riders in different marine shapes create a sequence children move along, which extends dwell time without extra footprint.
- Ergonomic plastic handles sized for small hands and positioned for a secure two-handed grip.
Materials and construction
- Steel components protected against corrosion by hot-dip galvanising and powder coating.
- Body in high-strength weather-resistant HDPE panel.
- Central spring giving a stable, self-limiting rocking motion.
- Ground anchor supplied for fixing.
Siting and safety area
The rider itself occupies only 0.9 by 0.27 m, but the minimum impact area is 4.0 by 3.3 m, so plan the spacing between riders from the impact areas rather than from the bodies. The free height of fall is below 0.6 m, which is the threshold at which EN 1176 calls for impact-attenuating surfacing, so grass or a bound surface is generally sufficient. Foundation depth is 0.6 m. Further options are shown in our spring riders range.

Frequently asked questions
Will the colours fade at a coastal site?
The body is through-coloured HDPE rather than a painted panel, and the steel is galvanised before coating. Salt air attacks coatings and fixings before it attacks either of those, which is why this construction is our default recommendation for seafront and poolside installations.
How close together can several riders be placed?
Impact areas of adjacent items may overlap only under the conditions set out in EN 1176; in practice we lay out riders on a grid derived from the 4.0 by 3.3 m area and confirm the result on the site plan before quoting.
Is it suitable for a child under two?
The rider is specified from birth to six years, but the youngest users need an adult alongside. The motion is deliberately damped by the spring so it cannot be driven violently by a child of this age group.
