The OG outdoor leg press is built from S235 steel with a powder coating and galvanised fixings. That combination is what allows the machine to stay outdoors year-round on sites away from a saline atmosphere. The equipment falls under EN 16630, the European standard for permanently installed outdoor fitness equipment for adults, and is installed on a base prepared for that use.
For a municipality, a campsite, a hotel or a residential developer, an outdoor strength station answers a demand indoor equipment cannot: training capacity that is open, free to access, needs no supervision at the door and no heated building behind it.
Why outdoor training keeps growing
Outdoor training is not a passing trend in the specification briefs we receive. Fresh air, daylight and open surroundings are consistently reported as the reasons users stay longer in a session and come back more often than they do to an enclosed room. For the operator, the practical arguments are simpler still: no ventilation, no changing rooms, no floor area rented at indoor rates, and an installation that serves the public from first light to dusk.
The weather remains the limiting factor, and it is the reason material specification matters more outdoors than indoors. A station that spends a decade exposed to rain, frost, UV and dust has to be selected on its steel grade and its surface treatment, not on the photograph in the brochure.
The OG series and where the leg press fits
The OG series is a family of outdoor machines covering the main muscle groups, designed to be combined into a complete open-air training area rather than installed as isolated pieces. The leg press is the lower-body anchor of that range: a high-load, low-technique station that beginners can use safely and experienced users can load progressively.
It sits naturally alongside the rest of the outdoor strength machines, and can be specified as part of a wider outdoor gym layout where pushing, pulling and cardio stations are grouped into a single circuit.
The technical detail
Structure
The frame is made of S235 steel, a structural grade chosen for its strength and its behaviour under permanent outdoor load. Every visible surface carries a powder coating, which is the layer that protects the steel against rain, frost and UV exposure over the long term.
Fixings
All fixings are galvanised, which is what keeps corrosion out of the joints – the point where an outdoor machine usually fails first. The plastic components are Elastodur, selected for resistance to wear and impact rather than for appearance, so the parts a user grips and knocks survive public use.
Adjustment
The station provides settings for load, seat position and handles. This is not a machine you sit on and press a button: the adjustments are what let a station in a public park fit users of very different heights and abilities, and what makes a correct, repeatable movement possible without a coach standing next to it.
Using the machine safely
- Clothing and footwear. Users should train in appropriate clothing with laced, secure footwear. Open shoes and sandals have no place on a loaded lower-body station.
- Progressive loading. Load is added gradually, not in one jump. This is the single most useful instruction to display on the station itself.
- Listening to the body. Users should stop at the point where form breaks down rather than pushing through it.
- Assembly and maintenance. Follow the assembly and maintenance instructions exactly. On public equipment, the inspection log is as much part of the installation as the concrete.
What the operator gets
A varied set of exercises and load settings on a single station, in an environment users actively prefer. Compared with an indoor bench occupying rented floor area, an outdoor leg press serves a far larger and more varied population for a far lower running cost: no lighting, no heating, no staffed opening hours.
The surface underneath is part of the specification, not an afterthought. Our range of outdoor sports flooring covers the surfacing options that go with a fitness area for adults.
Frequently asked questions
Can the OG leg press be installed near the coast?
The S235 and powder-coating combination is specified for sites away from a saline atmosphere. For a seafront installation, ask us about the stainless steel outdoor range instead.
Which standard applies?
EN 16630 covers permanently installed outdoor fitness equipment for adults. It is a different standard from the ones covering children’s playground equipment, and outdoor adult fitness stations must not be specified against those.
What surface is needed underneath?
A prepared base suited to the station and its intended use. Tell us the ground conditions on site and we will confirm the surfacing with the layout.
How much maintenance does it need?
Periodic inspection of fixings and moving parts, plus the routine checks required for publicly accessible equipment. The powder coating and galvanised fixings are what keep that workload low.
Specify your outdoor area
Send us the site, the intended users and the surface available, and we will return a station-by-station layout with the surfacing and a costed proposal. Start with a quote request.
