Description
The safety surface is where every playground project succeeds or fails: it is what actually protects a child when a grip slips. This multilayer wet-pour system pairs a seamless coloured EPDM wear layer with an SBR rubber shockpad over a compacted natural aggregate foundation – an attractive, comfortable surface engineered first and foremost to absorb impacts.
Specified to your equipment, not sold by the roll
The SBR damping layer is available in four thicknesses, each certified for a defined critical fall height. That means the surfacing is matched precisely to the equipment above it – no under-specification, no paying for performance you do not need.
- Wear layer: homogeneous coloured EPDM, 10 mm thick
- Shockpad: SBR rubber granulate, thickness selected to the target critical fall height
- Foundation: stabilised natural aggregate, 200 mm
- 30 mm SBR: critical fall height up to 1.00 m
- 50 mm SBR: critical fall height up to 1.75 m
- 70 mm SBR: critical fall height up to 2.40 m
- 90 mm SBR: critical fall height up to 3.10 m
- Slip-resistant, water-permeable and easy to maintain
Certified to EN 1176 and EN 1177
The system is compliant with the European safety standards EN 1176 and EN 1177 covering playground equipment and impact-attenuating surfacing, with certification issued by an independent body. The seamless EPDM surface can be laid in multiple colours, allowing games, paths and zoning to be drawn directly into the ground.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know which thickness I need?
Each piece of play equipment has a certified free fall height; the surfacing beneath it must offer at least that critical fall height. Our site study maps the zones of your playground and specifies the correct build-up for each – up to 3.10 m with the 90 mm shockpad.
Is wet-pour better than loose fill such as sand or wood chips?
Wet-pour needs no raking or topping up, stays accessible to pushchairs and wheelchairs, drains freely and cannot be scattered outside the safety zone – advantages that usually outweigh its higher initial cost on high-traffic sites.
Can it be installed around existing equipment?
Yes – the system is poured in place, so it forms cleanly around posts and foundations. See our playground surfacing range for the full family of solutions.
Send us your playground layout and equipment list: our team will return a complete surfacing quotation within 24 business hours.
