The TITAN Olympic calf machine trains the gastrocnemius and soleus without placing the spine under compression, which is the defining problem with a standing calf raise. The design activates both calf muscles through a movement that keeps the vertebral column out of the loading path, so heavy work on the calves becomes available to members who cannot or should not load the spine. The platform is elliptical rather than flat. Why is the platform elliptical?
