Materials and installation

Installation needs no glue: the tiles interlock on their four sides and lie loose on the substrate. Perimeter fixing can be useful over large surfaces or in high-traffic areas, but it is not systematic. The substrate must be hard, clean, dry and flat – at 7 mm an unevenness in the floor is still felt underfoot and can open up play in the joints, so screeding may be needed over an old floor. Tiles can be cut with a blade at the edges and around obstacles; allow a material margin, because cutting consumes part of the ordered surface, and plan how the edges will be finished where the interlocking teeth remain visible against the walls.

What to know before ordering

7 mm is not a shock-absorbing thickness. This tile is a finishing floor covering, not a protective floor against dropped loads. For weightlifting, bar drops or rack zones you need a rubber tile of 20 to 40 mm, such as the 20 mm rubber tile. The two combine perfectly in the same gym, zone by zone.

Order the whole surface in one go. Slight shade variation between production batches is possible across the range. Order the full surface including the cutting allowance rather than topping up later.

Allow for cutting waste and edges. Puzzle laying generates offcuts at the perimeter. Add a margin to the theoretical surface and plan the edge treatment where the interlocking teeth stay visible against the walls.
