Description
A 45-degree back extension bench in 316L marine-grade stainless steel for permanently installed outdoor fitness areas. Price: 1,999 EUR excluding VAT.
The posterior half of trunk training
Outdoor fitness areas almost always provide abdominal work and almost never provide lumbar work. The result is an installation that trains one side of the trunk and ignores the other, which is the imbalance most closely associated with lower back pain. This bench sets the user at 45 degrees, braces the pelvis and guides the extension, making lower-back conditioning available in an open-access setting where it normally is not.
Installed next to a sit-up bench it balances the trunk offering front and back. That pairing is the single most useful specification decision in a small outdoor fitness zone.
Typical clients
| Type of site | Main benefit |
|---|---|
| Fire and rescue services | Lumbar injury prevention for operational personnel |
| Local authority | Completes the trunk zone of a fitness area |
| Care home and residence | Gentle back conditioning |
| Sports club | Trunk injury prevention |
Materials and durability
Stainless steel construction takes permanent exposure without paint or a renewable surface treatment. Maintenance is limited to cleaning and a periodic check of the contact pads. In coastal, chlorinated or salt-laden air, 316L is the grade that determines whether an installation lasts fifteen years or five.
Specification and siting

In open-access settings, EN 16630 applies and an EN 1177 impact-attenuating surface is required beneath and around the station. On private enclosed sites these remain the reference for good practice. We recommend 40 to 65 mm rubber tiles, bonded, for the landing area.
Frequently asked questions
Why install a back extension bench alongside a sit-up bench?
The trunk is strengthened in pairs: front through the abdominals, back through the lumbar extensors. Installing both side by side balances the work and prevents the imbalances that cause pain.
Why stainless steel rather than painted steel?
No paint to maintain, no treatment to renew, and corrosion resistance including near the sea. Over a fifteen-year installation life the maintenance saving is larger than the price difference at purchase.
