Description
The Double Eight playground takes its name from its two interlinked steel loops, bent from 139.7 mm tube and mounted on 114.3 mm posts to form a figure-of-eight silhouette. Between and beneath the loops hang rope tunnels, nets, seats and sensory equipment — a compact structure that mixes climbing, crawling and communication play for children aged 5 to 14.
What children find on the structure
- Two suspended rope tunnels — one strung between the loops, one anchored from structure to ground — lined with rubber mats for comfortable crawling
- Two suspended seats and a frame of steel circles to climb through
- Four ladders mounted on steel posts

Engineering behind the fun
The steel loops are hot-dip galvanised and powder coated against corrosion, and the whole unit is anchored on C20/25 concrete footings at 1.0 m depth. Rope nets use 18 mm braided, bonded polyamide reinforced with galvanised steel strands, joined by plastic, stainless steel and aluminium connectors — a specification chosen for intensive public use.
