Bodytone EVOU1 professional upright bike

The Bodytone EVOU1, now sold as the EVOUTS+, is a professional upright exercise bike running an Android console on a 110 by 52 mm steel tube frame. It is a low impact cardio machine suited to every segment of a club’s membership, from warm up work through to high intensity interval sessions.

Twenty intensity levels cover the full range from recovery pedalling to hard efforts, and the handlebar offers three riding positions so a user can sit upright for a steady session or move forward for a harder effort. Heart rate is read from sensors integrated into the handlebar. The pedals are extra wide platforms with adjustable straps, which keeps the foot secure without cycling shoes, an important detail on a club floor where members train in trainers.

The console runs Android, so the operator can install the applications it wants rather than being limited to a closed system, and connectivity covers WiFi, HDMI, AV, Ethernet and USB. Sessions are followed through the MyBodytone application. The machine measures 107 by 64 by 157 cm and weighs 90 kg, so it takes little floor width, while maximum user weight is 180 kg.

Upright bikes are the workhorse of a cardio floor: they take the least space per user, they are the easiest machine for a new member to approach, and they are the natural warm up station before a strength session. At 64 cm wide the EVOU1 lines up efficiently, and the usual planning rule is to leave enough gap between saddles that two riders are not touching handlebars, plus a circulation lane behind the row. Because the console is a full Android device, budget a WiFi signal that actually reaches the cardio zone; a weak access point undermines the main reason for choosing a connected machine. On upper floors, check the combined 90 kg machine weight and rider load against the slab, and specify a rubber gym flooring tile underneath for stability and noise.
