Description
The AB Core station groups the trunk strengthening exercises of an outdoor training area onto one 316L stainless steel structure. Sit-ups, planks, supported holds and bracing positions are covered on a single frame, which turns core work from an afterthought into a defined station. Trunk strength conditions the quality of every other exercise in an outdoor area, from pull-ups to squats, so the core station is what makes the rest of the zone work properly.
The material specification is the part that matters for a permanently exposed installation. 316L is the marine grade of stainless steel, chosen for resistance to coastal air, chlorinated environments and salt laden atmospheres, and it is the correct answer wherever a galvanised or powder coated frame would eventually corrode. Maintenance reduces to periodic cleaning, with no repainting, no touch-up of damaged coatings and no replacement cycle driven by corrosion.

Outdoor installation, compliance and anchoring
In a free access setting such as a municipal fitness area, a park or a school ground, the station falls under EN 16630 for outdoor fitness modules. That brings two requirements which are decided in the groundworks rather than in the equipment order: a safety zone of at least 1.50 m clear around the structure, and an impact absorbing surface under and around it, compliant with EN 1177 and specified in thickness according to the free fall height. On enclosed private sites such as a military base, a company campus or a training box those requirements are not legally imposed but remain the reference for good practice. For the landing zone Light In Fitness recommends bonded rubber safety tiles of 40 to 65 mm. Why dedicate a station to core work?
The trunk stabilises every other movement, from pull-ups to squats to running. A dedicated station structures that work instead of leaving it to be improvised on the ground, and it is used by every level of visitor.
Why 316L rather than a coated steel?
316L carries its corrosion resistance in the material itself. A coating protects only while it is intact, and on a free access site it will be scratched. In coastal or chlorinated air, 316L is the specification that avoids replacing the structure.
What surfacing is required underneath?
An impact absorbing surface compliant with EN 1177, with the thickness determined by the free fall height. Bonded rubber tiles of 40 to 65 mm are the usual solution, and we size them in the implantation study.
