Where to Find OCR Fitness Equipment and Structures

Obstacle Course Racing, usually shortened to OCR, has moved from weekend events into permanent training infrastructure. For a gym operator, a leisure centre manager or a municipality, the question is no longer whether to offer it, but where to find OCR fitness equipment and structures that will hold up under commercial traffic. OCR blends strength work, cardio and functional training into a single circuit, which is precisely why one installation can serve very different member profiles.

Indoor gyms and fitness centres

Gyms and fitness centres are the most accessible starting point for OCR training. They already carry a broad range of strength and cardio equipment, so athletes can build the aerobic base and the muscular endurance an obstacle course demands. Treadmills, cross trainers, rowing machines and steppers cover the cardiovascular side. Dumbbells, free weights and resistance bands cover grip, pulling and core work. Group classes running in the same building, from fitness and pilates to zumba and aqua fitness, add the general conditioning that surrounds the specific obstacle sessions.

What most indoor sites lack is the obstacle layer itself. A dedicated rig turns a conventional strength floor into an OCR training space without a second building: monkey bars, hanging holds, cargo nets, quintuple steps and a sliding pole occupy a footprint many operators already have spare. Our ninja warrior rigs are designed for exactly that conversion.

Outdoor parks and public spaces

If you want to train in the open air, parks and public spaces increasingly carry equipment suited to OCR: pull-up bars, running lanes and obstacle trails that develop athleticism and coordination. For a municipality, a campsite or a resort, this is usually the more visible investment, because an outdoor course is open to residents and guests without a membership desk.

Outdoor structures have to be specified differently from indoor ones: protected steel, weather-resistant fixings, and a fall-absorbing surface underneath the obstacles. Our complete OCR obstacle courses are supplied as full layouts rather than loose items, which avoids the classic mistake of buying obstacles first and discovering the groundwork afterwards.

Buying directly from a manufacturer

General retail catalogues rarely carry OCR structures, because they are project equipment rather than shelf equipment. Light In Fitness has manufactured and installed professional fitness and obstacle equipment since 2013 and has equipped more than 2,500 customers. Steel structures are covered by a warranty of up to 20 years, and stainless steel by a lifetime warranty, which matters when the installation is meant to stay outdoors for a decade.

Combination cages are the usual entry point for a venue that wants both ninja and OCR use out of a single structure. The Ninja ELITE COMBO 4.3.3 GODZILLA cage is the largest of the range, with lighter versions available for smaller footprints.

Coaching and programming

Equipment alone does not create OCR members. A qualified coach builds a progression adapted to each athlete, guides technique on the obstacles that carry the highest injury risk, and programmes the strength work, from core and glutes to chest and legs, that makes those obstacles achievable. Venues that pair a rig with a coached session schedule fill it far faster than venues that simply install it and wait.

Frequently asked questions

Can OCR equipment be installed both indoors and outdoors?

Yes. Ninja and OCR rigs exist in indoor and outdoor versions. The difference lies in the materials, the surface treatment and the groundwork, not in the obstacles themselves.

How much space does an OCR course need?

It depends entirely on the layout chosen, from a single cage in the corner of a strength floor to a full outdoor circuit. We size the structure against your available footprint rather than the other way round.

Who buys this kind of equipment?

Gyms and fitness centres, cross-training boxes, leisure centres, municipalities, campsites and resorts, schools and clubs, and armed forces training sites.
