Description
The Work-fit balance course is a wooden outdoor circuit that trains stability, proprioception and controlled walking. It is one of the few fitness trail elements that suits every visitor profile, from children crossing for fun to older adults using it as a supervised balance exercise, which is why it appears in almost every municipal Work-fit installation. The structure is laminated Scandinavian pine treated in autoclave to class IV and finished with two coats of Lasur.
Balance work has a specific value in a public setting. Unlike strength stations, it produces measurable benefit at very low intensity, so it is used in fall prevention programmes for seniors and in coordination work for children. Placing it near the entrance of a trail also has a practical effect: it is visually inviting and low risk, so people who would not approach a pull-up bar will use it.
Metal parts are stainless steel AISI 304 and fasteners are stainless quality, the combination that keeps a timber structure fully serviceable outdoors. Laminated pine develops small natural checks with exposure, which do not affect strength or weather resistance. Spare parts are available for 10 years, so an individual beam or fitting can be replaced without touching the rest of the circuit.

Specifying a balance element for public use
The safety area required by EN 1176-1:2017 is measured from the equipment, and for a balance course it extends on both sides along the whole length, since a step off can happen anywhere on the run. The surfacing inside that area is selected from the free height of fall; grass, wood chips or an impact attenuating surface are the usual options and the choice normally follows the maintenance regime as much as the budget.
Work-fit elements combine into a route, so the balance course is typically ordered with a climbing station, an abdominal bench and a cardio element. We issue the dimensions, the safety area and the foundation drawing with the layout study, which lets the groundworks and the surfacing be tendered before the equipment order is confirmed.
Frequently asked questions
Is the balance course suitable for seniors?
Yes, and it is often specified for that reason. It is also used by children, so siting it where supervision is easy is worth considering.
What safety area and dimensions apply?
Both are supplied with the layout study, because the safety area depends on the position of the element within the wider trail.
Can single elements be replaced?
Yes. Spare parts are available for 10 years and individual timber sections or stainless fittings can be changed on site.
