Description
The Bodytone GOLDEN BOY is a premium 20 kg Olympic barbell in competition format, with a gold and black finish. It is aimed at high end gyms, performance studios and demanding athletes who want a technically capable bar that also does something for the look of the platform.
The specification follows competition standards. The bar is 2200 mm long at 20 kg, with a 28 mm grip diameter and sleeves sized for Olympic plates of 50 mm bore. Eight high precision bearings deliver the sleeve rotation that matters on the snatch and the clean and jerk, where the bar has to turn freely under the hands as it is received. That is the single specification that separates a weightlifting bar from a general purpose one.
The shaft is reinforced alloy steel, chosen for intensive use, and the two tone gold and black coating carries an anti oxidation treatment which protects the bar as well as giving it its identity. Whip and balance are appropriate for explosive movements, and the bar is equally usable for squats, pulls, presses and high level physical preparation.

Specifying bars for a professional platform
Bar selection is usually decided by the movements the facility programmes. A 28 mm shaft with bearing rotation is the weightlifting configuration; powerlifting bars use a thicker, stiffer shaft with bushings and are the wrong tool for the snatch. Facilities running both disciplines normally buy separate bars rather than compromising on one.
The visual argument is real but secondary. A gold finish barbell reads as a premium detail on a platform and photographs well, which matters to studios that market visually. What justifies the price is the eight bearing rotation and the reinforced alloy shaft, both of which affect how the bar performs under a heavy clean rather than how it looks in a picture.
Store bars horizontally on a rack rather than standing them on end, and wipe the shaft after chalked sessions. The anti oxidation treatment protects the coating but does not remove basic maintenance.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a weightlifting or a powerlifting bar?
Weightlifting. The 28 mm shaft and the 8 bearing rotation are the configuration used for the snatch and the clean and jerk.
Which plates fit the bar?
Olympic plates and bumper plates with a 50 mm bore.
Is the gold finish durable?
The coating carries an anti oxidation treatment. As with any coated bar, wiping down after chalked sessions extends its appearance.
