Why hexagonal bars
Hexagonal end plates do not roll. On a gym floor that means a bar set down mid-set stays where it was put, which matters in a group class, in a busy free-weight area and anywhere the floor is not perfectly level. It also makes the bars easier to stack and to return to the rack correctly, which is the practical determinant of whether a free-weight area stays tidy.
Construction
The rack uses the reinforced steel structure of the FR83 support, designed to take fixed-weight barbells of different lengths. The three-coat finish, anti-rust primer followed by epoxy, is what determines service life in a humid environment; racks in poolside and spa-adjacent gyms fail at the coating long before they fail structurally. Non-slip rubber bases protect the floor and stop the rack walking under repeated loading.
