The five building constraints that decide feasibility
- Ceiling height: the snatch needs 3.5–4 m of clear height; the clean and jerk 4–4.5 m. Treat 4 m as the absolute minimum and check it before any design work.
- Supporting slab: a reinforced concrete slab of at least 15 cm, ideally 20 cm under direct impact zones. Peak dynamic loads reach 10–15 tonnes of point force; a thin unreinforced slab cracks within a year or two.
- Acoustics: bar impacts measure 95–110 dB at floor level and vibrations carry far through a building frame. On upper floors or in shared buildings, a high-density underlay plus a floating, decoupled slab on resilient strips is non-negotiable.
- Clearance: a 4 x 4 m platform with the minimum 1.5 m surround occupies an effective 7 x 7 m — 49 m2 before circulation, warm-up areas and racks.
