Frequently asked questions

Do stainless dumbbells get hot in the sun?

Brushed or shot-blasted stainless steel holds less heat than painted steel or rubber. Even so, plan the area for shade where you can, expect peak-summer use to shift to the cooler hours, and consider handle inserts on exposed sites.

Can they be left in free access?

Yes, and most municipal installations are. We still recommend anchor points or lockable storage against theft, and we supply welded fixed racks where the site has no supervision at all.

What service life should we budget for?

More than twenty years outdoors, with no corrosion to manage over that period. For a public buyer that is what makes stainless the lowest cost per year of service, even though it is not the lowest purchase price.

Which grade should we specify?

316L for coastal and marine air, and for sites treated with de-icing salt. 304 is appropriate inland. Tell us the location and we will confirm the grade before you write the specification.
