Description
The Etenon R8402 is a selectorised abdominal crunch machine with a chest strap and a seat that pivots through three positions to reach the obliques. The strap is the feature that separates it from a bench or a floor crunch: it holds the torso against the pad through the whole movement, so the rectus abdominis performs the flexion instead of the hip flexors and the lower back taking over. That is the compensation most abdominal exercises fail to prevent.
Rotating the seat to the left or the right shifts the line of pull across the trunk and brings the internal and external obliques into the movement. One machine therefore covers the whole abdominal wall rather than only the front of it, which is what allows a club to offer a complete core station without dedicating floor area to three separate units.
Load is selected by pin on an 80 kg column, with fine increments at the bottom of the range so that the machine can start very light for beginners and rehabilitation patients and progress to competitive loads. A cam on the resistance arm keeps the load constant through the range, avoiding the drop-off at the end of the movement typical of poorly designed abdominal machines. The frame is welded steel with an epoxy powder coating, the machine is declared compliant with EN ISO 20957 and carries 24 months on parts with 10 years on the frame.

Professional use
Abdominal machines carry a reputation for being installed and then ignored, and placement is usually the reason. Put the R8402 where members already are, at the end of the machine circuit or beside the stretching area, rather than in a corner. A seated crunch station is also the accessible option for the populations that cannot get down to the floor and back up again comfortably, which is why senior residences, rehabilitation centres and hotel gyms specify it ahead of mats. Corporate wellness centres use it as part of back pain prevention programmes, where trunk strengthening is the intervention with the clearest case. Allow clear access to the seat from the front and side, and leave room behind the stack for servicing. We will position the core station within your wider layout free of charge from your floor plan.
Frequently asked questions
Is a machine crunch better than a floor crunch?
The machine adds progressive resistance and, through the chest strap, removes the compensation patterns that make floor crunches inconsistent between users. It is also accessible to members who cannot work comfortably on the floor.
How are the obliques worked?
The seat pivots to a left and a right position, changing the angle of trunk flexion and recruiting the internal and external obliques alongside the rectus abdominis.
Can the machine start light enough for rehabilitation?
The stack uses fine increments at the low end specifically so that rehabilitation and beginner users can start at a very light load and progress in small steps. Programming remains a matter for the supervising practitioner.
