Description

Connectors are what turn a set of loose tiles into one solid floor. They are not included in the price per square metre of the tile: a floor delivered without connectors cannot be assembled. Sold in packs of seven, they are quoted against the real layout of the area, because edge and corner tiles use fewer of them than field tiles.

What they do

A connected floor behaves as a single surface. Tiles do not separate underfoot, the joints stay closed, and a trolley or a vacuum cleaner can cross the floor without pushing tiles apart. Just as important, the assembly is reversible: the surface comes apart without special tooling and can be relaid elsewhere, provided the connectors are kept.

The floor they belong to

Weight rooms and free weight areas. At 20 mm the tile absorbs the everyday impacts of a free weight area: bars set down, moderate dumbbell drops, bench and rack feet. It is the reference thickness for a standard weights floor.

Cross-training boxes – the zones off the platform. Around weightlifting platforms, the 20 mm tile covers the movement, core work and light equipment areas at a lower cost than generalising a thick tile everywhere.

Corporate, hotel and residence fitness rooms. Connector assembly gives a solid surface that does not come apart underfoot and takes the passage of a trolley or a vacuum without the tiles shifting.

Changing layouts and leased premises. A connected floor can be taken up and relaid elsewhere. That is the decisive advantage for a leased unit, a temporary fit-out or a facility that will be reorganised.

Before you order

Connectors are invoiced separately. They are not included in the price per m2 of the tile. Budget them and order them with the floor: a surface delivered without connectors cannot be assembled.

20 mm is not enough for heavy weightlifting. For loaded barbell drops and dedicated platforms you need a 40 mm tile or a specific platform. The 20 mm tile covers the weights floor, not the drop zone.

A rubber smell in the first weeks is normal. It fades with ventilation and drops noticeably after the commissioning period. Plan to ventilate the room at delivery, particularly in an enclosed volume.

Density, granulometry, binder and fire classification are not published. These are the figures that separate two tiles of the same thickness and that are required in premises open to the public. Ask us for the complete technical sheet before comparing with another offer.

Frequently asked questions

How many connectors are needed per m2?

The number depends on the tile format and the layout chosen: edge and corner tiles use fewer than field tiles. Send us the surface and the plan of the area and we will quote the exact number of packs.

Do the tiles need to be glued down?

Not in most cases: the connectors hold the tiles to each other and the weight of the assembly keeps it in place. Perimeter bonding can be advisable in a heavy traffic zone or over a very large surface.

Is the tile suitable under a squat rack?

Yes for a free-standing rack in normal use. For an anchored rack or a repeated drop zone, plan a greater thickness under the landing area.

Can the floor be dismantled and relaid?

Yes. That is the main point of connector assembly: the surface comes apart without special tooling and is relaid elsewhere, provided the connectors are kept. Order a few spare packs so that a lost connector never holds up a relay.

What maintenance does the floor need?

Sweeping or vacuuming, then a mop with a neutral detergent. No solvent and no acid product: they attack the binder of the rubber over time.
