Standards and conformity

Standards are specific to the equipment family and must not be generalised across a whole catalogue. Permanent outdoor fitness equipment for adults is designed and installed to EN 16630. Children’s play equipment falls under EN 1176-1 and its impact-absorbing surfacing under EN 1177 – separate standards that are not interchangeable with EN 16630 and never apply to the same structure. Indoor equipment for a supervised commercial facility is designed and tested to EN ISO 20957-1 class S.

For a public authority, this distinction is not academic. It determines what the inspection body will look for, and it is the first thing to write into a tender. Ask any supplier which standard each individual reference is certified to, and treat a single blanket claim covering an entire range as a reason to ask again.
