Outdoor Fitness Areas for Hotels and Holiday Parks
Introduction
Travel has changed. Guests increasingly look for stays that combine rest, sport and wellbeing, and an outdoor training area has become one of the most visible ways for a hotel or a holiday park to answer that demand. Robust fitness and strength equipment in hot dip galvanised steel or stainless steel turns an unused corner of a site into a facility that guests photograph, review and come back for.
Light In Fitness designs and manufactures professional sports equipment, which means durable, safe installations built to the European standards that apply to outdoor equipment for collective use.
Why an outdoor sports area belongs in a hotel or holiday park
- It attracts an active clientele: a growing share of guests want to keep training while on holiday.
- It differentiates the property: an outdoor gym is a strong marketing argument that few competitors offer.
- It raises guest satisfaction: more activities on site means better reviews.
- It supports a low impact image: outdoor training consumes no energy at all.
The materials: galvanised steel and stainless steel
- Galvanised steel: hot dip galvanising gives strong corrosion protection and suits outdoor structures anywhere, including humid and coastal locations.
- Stainless steel, grade 304 or 316: highly resistant to water, salt and UV, and the right choice for seaside sites and poolside installations.
- Service life: between twenty and thirty years with minimal maintenance.
The safety standards that apply
Outdoor fitness equipment intended for collective use is designed and tested to EN 16630, the standard covering permanently installed outdoor fitness equipment for adults. Where a project combines a play area with sports modules, the play equipment falls under EN 1176-1 and the impact absorbing surface underneath under EN 1177. These are separate requirements: an item of children’s play equipment is never covered by EN 16630, and adult fitness equipment is never covered by the playground standards. Verify the certification of each module and the corresponding installation and inspection requirements under the national rules that apply on your site.

How to choose your outdoor fitness equipment
Selection criteria
- Target guests. Occasional holidaymakers are well served by simple units such as a cross trainer, a stepper or a rower. Regular athletes expect complete stations with plate loaded strength equipment and cross training rigs.
- Available space. A small urban hotel can work with 30 square metres for four or five outdoor machines. A family holiday park should plan around 100 square metres for a complete multi sport area.
- Indicative budget. Individual units start from 1,500.00 EUR excluding VAT. A complete multi activity area typically runs from 15,000.00 to 80,000.00 EUR excluding VAT depending on size and modules.
- Standards and safety. Always check the EN 16630 certification of adult equipment, and the EN 1176-1 and EN 1177 documentation where play modules are included.
- Durability. Specify stainless steel 316 in coastal and poolside locations.
