Why a cross trainer belongs on a club floor

It covers the part of the membership that cannot or will not run: older users, people returning from injury, and members who want a long session without impact. It is also one of the easier machines to use correctly without instruction, which matters in unsupervised facilities. Stride length is the specification that separates models, and larger commercial frames reach around 60 cm, which suits taller users.

Specification What it affects
Stride length Comfort for taller users, up to around 60 cm
Resistance type Electromagnetic resistance gives smooth control
Flywheel position Front or rear drive changes the feel and footprint
Console Programmes, data and member engagement
Footprint Machine length plus lateral clearance for arms

Installation and maintenance

Plan dedicated socket outlets where the model requires power, and allow lateral clearance beside each machine for the moving arms, which catalogue footprints do not always include. Rubber gym flooring tiles reduce vibration transmission on upper floors. Maintenance is limited to cleaning, checking pedal arm bearings and inspecting the drive. Indoor equipment falls under EN ISO 20957-1 class S (successor to the former EN 957), and warranty runs from 2 to 5 years depending on the range.

Frequently asked questions

Cross trainer or treadmill?

They serve different members rather than competing. The treadmill suits runners and delivers higher intensity for trained users; the cross trainer suits members who need to avoid impact and generally allows longer sessions. A club floor normally needs both, with the ratio set by the membership profile.

Which stride length should be specified?

Longer strides suit taller users and give a more natural gait, while shorter strides suit compact rooms and users of smaller stature. Where one machine has to serve a mixed membership, a longer stride with adjustable settings is the safer choice. Send us your user profile and we will match the model.
