Description
The Work-fit abdominal bench is a timber fitness trail station for core work, built in laminated Scandinavian pine treated in autoclave to class IV with AISI 304 stainless steel metal parts. It gives a fixed inclined surface for sit ups and core exercises at a point on the trail where users have already warmed up.
The fixings are electro galvanised stainless steel of grade 8.8 to DIN 267 in AISI 304, which is the detail that determines how a timber station ages: the timber itself is protected by the autoclave treatment, and it is the metal to timber junctions that fail first when ordinary steel is used. Spare parts remain available for ten years.
The station is designed for permanent installation outdoors in a natural setting, with an impact area provided in accordance with EN 1176-1:2017. Maintenance is limited to periodic inspection and cleaning, with the frequency increased where the trail is heavily used.

Placing a core station on a trail
Core stations are used differently from pulling or jumping stations: users spend longer on them and often work in pairs. That argues for placing the bench slightly off the running line, on a level area with room for a second person to stand, rather than directly on the path.
A timber bench also has a practical advantage in exposed sites. It stays usable in sunshine, where a metal surface can become uncomfortably hot, which matters on southern facing trails and in campsites and holiday villages.
Timber stations also age differently from steel ones. A galvanised frame looks the same after ten years, while timber greys and softens visually, which is often what a park department wants in a wooded or protected setting. The structural performance is maintained by the class IV treatment and by the stainless steel hardware, not by the appearance of the surface.
