Layout plan and run-offs

The layout plan arranges 4,032 tiles in 72 rows by 56. The marked playing area takes up 60 × 44 tiles, the 15 × 11 m of 3×3 basketball; the rest forms the run-offs: 1.51 m on each side, 2 m behind the baseline at the basket end and 1 m at the opposite end. Dimensions remain adjustable in 25 cm increments: the final plan sets the lines, free zones, colours and basket position according to the space available.

Allow a further 2 to 5 cm between the court and any fixed obstacle (wall, kerb, fence, post) for expansion of the tiles.

Playing surface performance

The court is made of SES Elite tiles: non-slip checkerboard surface, double-groove drainage, elastic clips with reinforced locking and rounded corners. The full test table is on the SES Elite tile page.

Property Test method Result Requirement
Shock absorption EN 14808 30% 25 to 75%
Vertical deformation EN 14809 1.2 mm ≤ 6 mm
Vertical ball rebound EN 12235 100% ≥ 85%
Friction (dry) EN 13036-4 102 80 to 110
Water permeability EN 12616 > 24 000 mm/h ≥ 150 mm/h

FIBA 3×3 approval and references

SES Elite tiles are approved as FIBA Approved 3×3 Equipment (licence no. 3SF-063-1) at level 1, required for FIBA 3×3 Official Competitions and their direct qualifiers, and at level 2 for any other 3×3 play. This surface was used for 3×3 basketball at the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games, on the FIBA 3×3 World Tour, at the 3×3 World Cup and in the French 3×3 Superleague. The current certificate is handed to the customer when the order is placed.

The approval certificate states that the surface is not suitable for play in wet conditions: competition is played on dry tiles. TPE and the draining structure speed up drying after rain, and electric blowers shorten it further.

Substrate and site preparation

The tiles are laid on a flat, hard and uniform surface, free of areas where water collects, which would affect sports performance or the service life of the floor.

Suitable Concrete slab, asphalt, porous concrete (tennis court type), PVC floor, acrylic resin, timber floor with an underlay
Not recommended Soil, grass, unstabilised gravel, sand

Assembly, dismantling and delivery

The tiles are delivered in numbered boxes and laid following the plan supplied: engage without forcing, check the alignment of the rows, then walk on the tiles to check the clipping. The court can be played on as soon as assembly is finished. For event use, keeping the boxes, which are sized for the tiles, makes later assemblies easier.

Configuration Area with run-offs Assembly or dismantling (indicative time)
3×3 basketball 256 m² (18.018 × 14.234 m) 3 people, 3 h
5-a-side basketball, on quotation 608 m² (32 × 19 m) 6 people, 5 h

Delivery is not included in the price: transport costs depend on the destination and are stated in the quotation.

Colours, logo, finishing and basket unit

Three standard colours are offered (dark grey, light grey, black); other colours are studied on request, white and orange being not recommended. The logo of the club or local authority can be integrated into the court, and finishing profiles close the perimeter. A portable, modular basketball unit approved by FIBA can be quoted as an addition.

Maintenance

Clean regularly with a mop or dust mop, using soap or a pH-neutral cleaner in a weak solution. Never use acids (bleach, vinegar), high-pH alkaline products or cleaners containing oil, grease, solvents or abrasives. Play in clean sports shoes and do not place furniture on the surface.

SES Elite compared with the other courts in the range

SES Elite is the reference model of the range: the thickest tile (2 cm), the 3×3 basketball surface of the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games, rated Cfl-s1 for reaction to fire. The other models suit tighter budgets for outdoor leisure or training courts.
