Description
This accessible vertical ladder station is supplied as a kit of two 2.5 m posts and one vertical ladder element, measuring 130 x 16 x 220 cm and requiring a 5.10 x 3.96 m safety area of 17.11 m2. Mounted on a fitness trail it serves two purposes at once: a climbing and hanging frame for standing users, and a fixed rail system that a seated or reduced mobility visitor can use for assisted stretching, upper limb work and balance support. It is one of the simplest structures in an outdoor circuit and one of the most used.

What a vertical ladder adds to a trail
A fitness trail built only from seated machines trains muscles but not movement. A ladder restores the vertical dimension: climbing, hanging, reaching overhead and controlling the body against gravity. For standing users that means grip, shoulder and trunk work. For a visitor with reduced mobility, the same rungs become a graded set of handholds for supported stretching, shoulder mobility and standing balance, with the height chosen according to ability rather than dictated by the equipment.
- Strength, flexibility and balance from one simple structure
- Usable standing, seated or with support, at the user own level
- Two 2.5 m posts, part of which is set into the foundation
- Narrow 16 cm profile, easy to place along a path edge
- Suitable for parks, schools, sports grounds and coastal sites
Foundations, safety area and durability
The posts are supplied at 2.5 m for a finished height of 220 cm above ground, the difference being the buried section in the concrete foundation. Reserve the full 17.11 m2 safety area around the station: it is larger than the structure suggests because the fall zone has to cover the whole reach of a user hanging or climbing. Surfacing must be specified against the free height of fall in the installation drawing.
The structure is built for permanent outdoor exposure, including coastal sites where salt spray and wind accelerate corrosion on lesser equipment. Maintenance is limited to visual inspection of the rungs, the fixings and the post bases, plus the periodic and annual inspections expected of an operator running publicly accessible outdoor equipment.
Frequently asked questions
What exactly is delivered?
Two posts of 2.5 m and one vertical ladder element. Foundations, surfacing and installation are quoted separately, and the ladder can be combined with other elements on shared posts when a longer run is planned.
Is it suitable for children?
The station is used in schools and nurseries as well as in public parks, but the appropriate age range depends on the height installed and on the surfacing specified. That should be settled on the layout drawing before ordering, alongside the fall height calculation.
Can it be installed near the sea?
Yes. The structure is specified for beaches and exposed sites. As with any coastal installation, a shorter visual inspection interval is sensible, particularly on the fixings.
