Description
Rope play configuration no. 17 pairs two fundamentally different climbing experiences: a rope climbing pyramid with a tunnel, internal and external access shafts and a wide slide, and a play tower fitted with a sliding pole and a tube slide, joined by a transition walkway. Nine components across 27.0 x 16.4 m.
Soft structure and hard structure
A rope pyramid moves under load; a steel tower does not. Children read those two things completely differently — the pyramid demands constant balance adjustment, the tower rewards confidence at height. Putting both on one installation, connected by a walkway, means a child can choose which kind of challenge they are in the mood for, and can progress from one to the other over a season.
- Rope climbing pyramid with tunnel
- Internal and external access shafts
- Wide slide
- Play tower with sliding pole and tube slide
- Transition walkway
Descent options
Wide slide, tube slide and sliding pole give three unrelated ways down, each with a different appeal and a different speed. The sliding pole in particular clears the top of the tower fast, which is what stops a queue building at the tube slide entrance during a school visit.
Materials
Hot-dip galvanised steel throughout, standard finish. Foundations at 1.0 m depth. Galvanising is applied by immersion, so the protection reaches the inside of hollow sections as well as the visible faces — the reason a galvanised frame outlasts a painted one on a wet site.
Surfacing
The free height of fall is 3.0 m, so an impact-attenuating surface certified to EN 1177 for a critical fall height of at least 3.0 m is required across the 31.5 x 19.5 m safety area. The equipment is certified to PN EN 1176-1:2017 by an independent certification body; the surface below it is governed by EN 1177.

Frequently asked questions
What is the tunnel used for?
It gives enclosed, ground-level play at the base of the pyramid — useful for younger children in the range and for shelter on hot or wet days. It also creates a second circulation route that does not involve climbing.
Is a sliding pole compatible with a 3.0 m fall height?
It is part of the certified configuration and is assessed within it. The surfacing requirement is set by the overall 3.0 m free height of fall and covers the pole landing area like the rest of the impact area.
Can the tower be specified without the pole?
Yes. Removing it reduces the descent options and tends to concentrate traffic on the tube slide, so we would normally suggest keeping it unless there is a specific supervision reason.
