Description
The Solid Grow SG55 is a prone leg curl loaded with 50 mm Olympic discs, with a recommended maximum load of 75 kg. Price: 1,518 EUR excluding VAT.
Why hamstring work has to be programmed
Most gym members train their quadriceps far more than their hamstrings, because squats, leg presses and extensions all sit at the front of the thigh. The imbalance that results is one of the best documented risk factors for hamstring strain, and it is also why so many members plateau on posterior chain lifts.
A dedicated leg curl is the simplest way to correct that. The SG55 isolates the hamstrings through knee flexion with an adjustable ankle roller, so the load goes exactly where the programme intends and nothing else compensates.
Prone rather than seated
Lying face down puts the hip in extension and keeps the pelvis flat against the pad. Two things follow. The lumbar spine takes very little tension compared with a seated leg curl, where the user tends to round the lower back as the load rises. And the hamstrings work from a shortened hip position, which changes the length tension relationship and makes the exercise complement rather than duplicate a seated machine.

Where the Solid Grow range fits
Solid Grow is the Bodytone entry to mid range, designed for small and medium gyms, independent coaches and premium home gyms. Free weight loading keeps the purchase price and the maintenance down: there are no cables, pulleys or selector pins, so servicing is limited to checking fasteners and upholstery.

Frequently asked questions
Is 75 kg enough for strong members?
Yes for the great majority. A prone leg curl isolates a single joint action, and loads on an isolation movement are far lower than on a compound lift: 75 kg of plate on a curl is a demanding set for an experienced trainee.
Should it be bought alongside a leg extension?
It is the usual pairing, because together they balance the front and the back of the thigh and cover the two isolation movements a small room needs. Ask us to quote both on the same order and we will price the matching disc sets with them.
Can it be used in rehabilitation?
It is frequently specified for return to training work, because the load can start very low and the prone position keeps the lower back out of the movement. The decision to use it in a rehabilitation protocol belongs to the physiotherapist or the sports physician.
Tell us the room you have and the movements you want to cover and we will return a written quotation with the machine, its disc set and delivery in France. See the full Bodytone Solid Grow range.
