Description
The Solid Grow SG61 is a reverse hyperextension loaded with 50 mm Olympic discs, with a recommended maximum load of 66 kg. Price: 1,408 EUR excluding VAT.
The lower back exercise that does not compress the spine
On a conventional hyperextension bench the legs are fixed and the torso moves, which loads the lumbar spine directly. The reverse version turns that around: the torso is fixed on a support and the legs perform the extension against resistance.
Reversing the movement changes the loading. Vertebral compression is limited while the posterior chain still receives a full contraction, which is why the exercise is used both in rehabilitation and at the far end of advanced performance work. Few machines cover that range.
What it trains
- Recommended maximum load: 66 kg
- Disc compatibility: 50 mm Olympic, discs not supplied
- Targets: erector spinae, glutes, hamstrings
- Suggested accessory: a 50 kg disc set per machine
Lower back strength is the least glamorous item on a training programme and the most frequently cited in members leaving a gym because of pain. A station that lets the erectors be trained without axial loading is a genuine argument for retention, not just for performance.
Who it is for
Solid Grow is the Bodytone entry to mid range, designed for small and medium gyms, independent coaches and premium home gyms. The SG61 is also specified by rehabilitation centres and by coaches running preventive lower back programmes, where the ability to start with a very light plate matters more than the ceiling load.
Free weight, minimal servicing
There are no cables, pulleys or selector pins on the machine, so the maintenance schedule comes down to checking fasteners and inspecting the upholstery. For a small studio without a technician on call, that is a real operating advantage over a selectorised equivalent.

Frequently asked questions
Can it be used in rehabilitation?
It is one of the reasons the machine exists. The reverse position limits vertebral compression and the plate loading can start extremely light. Whether it fits a given protocol remains a decision for the physiotherapist or the physician.
How does it compare with a back extension bench?
A back extension bench costs less and needs no plates, but it loads the spine directly and the resistance is limited to body weight plus a held disc. The SG61 reverses the movement and lets the load be selected in kilogrammes, which is what makes progression possible.
Are the discs included?
No. The 1,408 EUR excluding VAT covers the machine. We recommend a 50 kg set of 50 mm Olympic discs per station, which can be added to the same quotation.
Tell us the room you have and the movements you want to cover and we will return a written quotation with the machine, its disc set and delivery in France. See the full Bodytone Solid Grow range.
