The Bfl-s1 speckled rubber tile combines the highest fire rating a rubber floor can achieve under EN 13501-1:2018 with a terrazzo-look finish: black SBR base flecked with mass-tinted white EPDM granules, 100 x 100 cm, SGS fire test report supplied. Price: 45 EUR excluding VAT per m2.
Fire compliance without an industrial look
Most top-rated fire-classified rubber floors are plain black. This tile was selected for buildings where the floor is on show: care home corridors, clinic halls, nursery motor-skills rooms, hotel seminar and wellness areas, senior-residence gyms. The white EPDM granules are tinted through the mass, producing a bright terrazzo-style surface that reads as a design floor while remaining a technical rubber tile. One product answers both the strictest fire prescription and the architect’s finish schedule.
What the SGS report actually certifies
The tile was tested by SGS-CSTC to EN 13501-1:2018, EN ISO 9239-1 and EN ISO 11925-2 (report no. GZMR250200322601). Three results matter to a safety commission: a mean critical heat flux of 9.23 kW/m2 against the 8.0 kW/m2 minimum for the Bfl class; integrated smoke production of 247 percent-minutes against the 750 ceiling for the s1 smoke index; and no ignition observed under direct flame, only localised charring without propagation. Bfl-s1 is the highest class a rubber covering can reach — the Afl classes above it are reserved for incombustible materials — which is why this specification is requested for hospitals, care homes, nurseries and schools where evacuation is slow.
Construction and installation
The tile is a SBR rubber body with white EPDM surface granules, density around 1,000 kg/m3, smooth finish, in a 100 x 100 cm format. Thicknesses from 15 to 40 mm are available on request. Tiles of 20 mm and above can be loose-laid; thinner formats and high-traffic areas are glued with polyurethane adhesive. Manufacturing defects are covered by a 5-year warranty.

Because some safety commissions require it: category 1 public buildings and establishments hosting vulnerable occupants — hospitals, care homes, nurseries, schools — often demand a class above Cfl-s1. The s1 smoke index is the decisive half of the rating where evacuation is slow, since smoke precedes flame in corridors.
