Description

This artificial turf sprint lane is an indoor training track, 2 m wide, with 12 mm fibres tufted at 35 000 stitches per square metre. It is designed for speed, explosiveness and power work: repeated sprints, sled push and sled pull, agility drills, conditioning circuits, functional training workouts and Hyrox events. The turf surface grips better than concrete, wood or smooth rubber, because the fibres create natural traction under the sole that improves the start and the acceleration phase, while absorbing part of the impact and so reducing knee and ankle loading compared with sprinting on a rigid floor. The catalogue price is 33 EUR excluding VAT per square metre.

Turf or rubber, and how to lay out the lane

The two surfaces answer different questions. Artificial turf gives high traction at the start of a sprint and, crucially, a controlled glide for sled push and prowler work: the skids slide predictably instead of catching. A 40 mm SBR rubber tile brakes the sled far more, which makes loading harder to calibrate, but absorbs landing impacts better and is the correct surface under a drop zone. Turf also feels closest to natural ground for agility drills and changes of direction.

Layout is the part that decides whether the lane gets used. A 2 m width is enough for a single athlete with lateral tolerance, or for paired sled work if the sled is centred. Length should be set by the protocol rather than by the space left over: 10 to 15 m suits sled pushes and shuttle work, 20 to 30 m is the usable range for repeated accelerations, and longer runs are for facilities preparing specific race formats. Add a deceleration zone beyond the marked finish line, which is where most avoidable injuries occur.

Place the lane against a wall rather than through the middle of the room, so it does not cross circulation routes during classes, and keep the surrounding surface consistent to avoid a lip where the turf meets rubber tiles. Maintenance is light: vacuum regularly, brush the fibres so they stay upright in the high traffic first metres, and wash with water and a neutral detergent.

Frequently asked questions

Which length should be ordered?

Lengths run from 10 to 50 m in 5 m increments. Choose according to the protocols you run and remember to allow for a deceleration zone, then confirm the free run against the room dimensions.

Does the surface suit sled work specifically?

Yes, and it is one of the main reasons operators choose turf. The skids glide in a controlled way on the fibres, which makes progressive loading possible, whereas rubber applies far more braking resistance.

Which colours are available?

Green, black, brick red, bright red and blue. Colour is specified at the time of order alongside the length, and both determine the final quotation.
