Description
The Gold SPG016 leg extension machine loads the quadriceps from a 102 kg selectorised stack. The frame weighs 245 kg, occupies 1,236 x 1,408 mm and accepts users up to 180 kg.
Isolated knee extension under controlled load
The leg extension is one of the few machines that loads the quadriceps without involving the hip or the spine. That makes it useful in two very different contexts: as accessory volume for members who already squat, and as a measurable, low-risk loading tool for knee rehabilitation where a coach or physiotherapist needs to control range of motion precisely.
- Open-chain knee extension isolating the quadriceps group
- 102 kg pin-selected stack, the highest in the lower-body isolation group of the range
- Adjustable back pad and shin roller to align the knee with the pivot axis
- 1,236 x 1,408 mm footprint, 1,650 mm height
- 245 kg machine weight, maximum user weight 180 kg
Setting up a member correctly
Two adjustments determine whether the station is safe and effective. The back pad is set so the knee joint line falls on the machine pivot, and the shin roller sits just above the ankle without pressing on the tibialis anterior. Members who set the roller too low report anterior shin pressure; members who sit too far forward lose knee support entirely. Both are quick coaching points worth including in an induction script.
Pairing and circuit position
The SPG016 is normally installed opposite the SPG014 seated leg curl so that quadriceps and hamstring work sit side by side and can be alternated in a single circuit pass. In a leg zone with a leg press, place the extension after the press in the flow so the machine is used for accessory volume rather than as a warm-up bottleneck.

Frequently asked questions
Can the range of motion be limited for rehabilitation work?
Range restriction is a common requirement in post-operative knee protocols. Confirm the exact adjustment provided on the delivered configuration at quotation stage, as start-angle options differ between production batches. Where a fixed range stop is essential, tell us at specification stage and we will confirm before order.
Is 102 kg sufficient for strength athletes?
For an open-chain single-joint movement, 102 kg is a high working load and covers the great majority of members. Strength athletes typically use the station for controlled repetitions in the 10 to 20 range rather than maximal loading, so the stack is rarely the limiting factor.
What clearance is needed around the station?
Allow around 1 m in front of the shin roller for the leg path and entry, plus service access at the stack. In a leg zone, 2.5 m x 2.5 m per station is a workable planning figure.
