Description
This black curled artificial turf track measures 20 m x 2 m and provides a firm, stable running and dragging surface for functional training areas. Short curled fibres are the specification that matters: they give a dense, level surface with no give underfoot, which is what a sled push, a prowler drag or a sprint start needs, and which a long pile turf cannot deliver. The firm surface also reduces the injury risk that comes from an unstable foot placement under load.
The turf is manufactured from high quality materials with increased resistance to ultraviolet, water and chemicals, so it withstands intensive training and demanding conditions. Black is the usual choice for a strength and conditioning floor, where the track reads as equipment rather than as a lawn and where markings, sleds and equipment stand out clearly against it.

Laying a functional training track
A 20 m track needs 20 m of clear run plus a turning and deceleration area at each end, so plan around 24 m of usable length before ordering this size. Two metres of width takes a single sled lane comfortably; facilities running two athletes in parallel usually specify two tracks side by side rather than one wider one, because the seam then falls between the lanes rather than under a wheel.
The substrate underneath decides how the track performs and how long it lasts. A level, clean and dry surface is essential, and in a strength area the track is normally laid over or butted against rubber flooring so the transition from turf to tile is flush. Where sleds are used heavily, bonding the edges prevents the track creeping under repeated horizontal load. Beyond the training benefit, the commercial argument is maintenance: unlike natural grass the turf needs no watering, mowing or fertilising, and it lasts long enough to make it a saving rather than a cost over the life of the floor.
Frequently asked questions
Why choose short curled fibres?
Because they produce a firm, stable surface with minimal give, which is what sled work and sprint starts require. Longer pile compresses underfoot and makes the footing unpredictable under load.
Can it be used outdoors?
The turf resists ultraviolet, water and chemicals, so it stands up to demanding conditions. For a permanent outdoor installation the substrate and drainage need specifying, which we do as part of the project study.
What other sizes and colours are available?
The same specification is offered in green, and other lengths can be quoted. Tell us the dimensions of the lane you need and we will confirm availability with the quotation, issued within 24 working hours.
